We only brought one bottle. We didn’t think there’d be such a rush.

How’s your eyesight?
It took me a second, but then I lol’d.

None of these are true. And since James didn’t write a word of that bible, parts are even impossible.
Also note that the use of “Fag” in this context gets close to hate speech.
Dare I use the “W” word on our good friend, DrDeth here, folks?

It is beginning to crystalize that the elusively defined “hate speech” depends, in large part, on who is speaking.

Oh, and also:
Speak for yourself, jackass.
You are either not an atheist or you do not know what the word ‘delusional’ means. Douchetard.

Er, not to lose my atheist cred, but what do you think that delusional means? I’ve met a number of theists that are perniciously mistaken, but not hallucinatory. And can’t the word mean either?

Hallucinatory is a fine line. But moreso it applies to beliefs.
A fixed false opinion or belief with regard to objective things, esp. as a form of mental derangement.
And I am of course in good company.

Hmm. As one who can think that a person is deluded but not delusional* (and that believing a delusion only makes you the former), I will have to clock in as an atheist who thinks that not all theists are delusional, though many certainly are. Even more of them are deluded, though some aren’t - some are agnostic enough to avoid the ‘fixed’ aspect of the definition.
- I think “delusional” implies a predelication towards additional delusions as time passes - a tendency towards disconnecting with reality. “Deluded” means only that you have a delusion and that you have been inflating or denying evidence about that belief, not that you have a loose connection with reality in general. They are both epethets, but ‘delusional’ is the more pejorative of them in my eyes.
James I (IV) didn’t actually write the Bible, he just commissioned a proper translation.
And it’s quite good too, if a bit archaic now.

Oh yes, I realize the OP thinks it’s a parody. But it’s not clear to everyone, and the OP didn’t make that clear by adding any little “hey folks, this is a parody of this” at the bottom.
In any case, even if he thinks he’s being funny, the abuse of certain words is still not condoned. Let us see him call the President a “nigger” a couple dozen times and see what happens. :dubious:
I would classify faith as something that is very SUBjective, not OBjective. Therefore, it would seem that delusional does not apply.

Uh…I didn’t? What would you have wanted, big bold letters or something?

Uh…I didn’t? What would you have wanted, big bold letters or something?
Yes, you did, but for your use of the word “fag” only. And does just saying it’s a whoosh mean that you don’t have to follow the rules? Can I post a long hateful PITing of Cecil and all the staff and then say “whoosh” and it’s now OK? Can I threaten to sue the SDMB, and get away with it if I say it’s only a joke?
Just saying “it was a joke” doesn’t prevent a harassment charge in the real world.
The word is still hurtful to some- even if you meant it as a joke.
Okay, I’m sorry I offended you. It won’t happen again. The joke is stale now anyway; the thread’s turned into a debate about atheism. Fine with me.

And yet every Christmas, sing their praises:

On the fist of Ste-phen…
…and we’ve found our Westboro Baptist Church mole.

Faith as in belief? The pejorative ‘delusional’ is a statement about belief - so wether it can apply or not would depend on what the belief is about. If you have faith that every time you blink God strikes the nearest person to you with lightning, then your faith is delusional. (Well, that or I don’t want to stand anywhere near you.)
My personal definition of the term “faith” is “belief in excess of evidence” - and some would call that “delusion” by definition. (Myself I may be willing to call delusion “belief in contradiction with evidence” - but that is a pretty fine distinction and lots of people have faith that crosses into that territory as well.)

There is no rule requiring that a parody thread mention what it’s parodying if the target is not a particular post on this board.

I finally realized that by “fag” you folks are not referring to dried tobacco rolled and smoked.
