God, I hate April Fool's day

How do you tell the difference?

Again, I am hardly humorless. It’s just that I’m not into whoopee cushions, plastic vomit or April Fools jokes.

I agree that April 1 is an excuse for some people to play jokes that are just downright mean. Still I think that a well thought out April 1 joke can be fun for everybody. IMHO a good April fools joke should be obvious and only mildly annoying/embarrassing. It should also only be played on a person who can laugh at themselves. Sometimes I catch on to a joke without falling for it and still have a good laugh because it was well constructed. Other times I fall for the joke and have a good laugh at myself.
April 1 is like Christmas in some ways. It can be annoying, carols-decorations-parties, if you don’t like it. But there is no point in being upset with the people who do like it.

The first two have nothing even remotely in common with the latter. Most April Fools jokes are quite adult, in that a child could not come up with them.

And those who say you like obvious April Fool’s jokes: then you don’t like April Fool’s jokes. The whole point is to fool people. Granted, you don’t want to overdo it and actually cause distress. The real point is to get you to laugh at the inanities of life.

If you don’t like them, fine. But don’t insult those who do by implying we’re being childish.
