God is some kind of intelligent force in the universe?

You mean you can’t pay some fee to get “preferred customer” staus? Jeebus, God needs to take some marketing classes.

I witnessed something similar to JohnClay.

My wife was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. The doctors weren’t hopeful. We went through surgery, chemo and radiation. It kept growing.
But…we had friends and relatives and my wife’s conviction in the Lord. They prayed for us. They prayed for my wife individually and as a group. I had people stop me in the halls and prayed for me and my wife’s health.

She died anyway.

Well when I was having the problem I tried restarting the computer and I still had the problem sometimes.

Sorry about that. I was busy working on someone’s code.

God

I thought maybe you were helping a sports team somewhere.

Story about databases and websites:

Today my boss and the second in charge left work early because they had a big meeting with the bank. I finished soon and then I started downloading the main site’s database which is nearly 2 Gb. Earlier today I downloaded incomplete versions of it that didn’t include the biggest tables. It would take a few hours to download so I just left and hopped on the bus. One of the new employees rang me up and said the site wasn’t working. So I hopped off the bus and walked back to work. On the way I said to cancel the database download - but it still wasn’t working.
On the database program I couldn’t connect to it. It seemed the logins didn’t work. I rang up the boss and asked him if he knew of any Amazon experts. He said I should just sort it out myself and ring him back when it’s fixed. I eventually found the AWS entry page. It said there was an alarm for there being more than 30 connections to the RDS… and currently there were 65 connections… then I saw that the database program had an open window to the local database though the other database window was closed. So I quit out of the program and the number of connections went to 0 and the site worked again and I could connect to the databases again using the database program.
I rang the boss back and said that I left that program running and he said I shouldn’t leave things running without being there. I said that it would take many hours and I’ve done it before. I said it seemed that it created a lot of connections perhaps to speed it up.

BTW in the past there was an employee that got AUS$60,000 a year (I get about $25,000 a year) and the boss got really upset with him and fired him. He lost about half a day of data from the database. I think he also made other mistakes leading up to that because he was already prepared to leave - he had instructions about how I can do tasks written out.

There were some things that were lucky today:

  1. I left early when I run the database download… if I left later no-one at work would have found the problem. If they rang later and if the office was closed there would be nothing at all that could be done. (BTW there are thousands of users using the site/database and they pay $50/year)
  2. The employee that regularly checked the website happened to be there - the other 2 employees don’t check the main website.
  3. There happened to be an employee there who knew my mobile number - we shared phone numbers a while ago.

BTW I’ve been pretty paranoid lately… today I had 2 database windows open a lot… one was the local one and the other was the main site. There were queries I’d run (e.g. set all user passwords to “1234” [well the hash of “1234”]) that need to be done on the local database but if I accidently did it on the main database it would be a disaster - I’d lose their original passwords.

I don’t follow. Are you attributing this to the god of Abraham who can be entreated to alter natural laws and phenomena upon request?

It’s evidence for the existence of Satan, who causes software glitches.
