Goddammit, Leave The Liver Alone!!!

There isn’t a horse-meat industry in the US, but I understand that there is in France. Is there a market for foal? And yes, I love veal/lamb/babypiggie.

Ha. I don’t think I could bring myself to eat something like horse, cat, dog or anything like that unless it was out of necessity. Herd animals, fowl, vermin, etc though…bring it on!

:dubious: That doesn’t seem like such a sterling recommendation to me. Then again, I loathe factory farming.

The Barnes & Noble where a friend of mine works has a mini Starbucks. A couple of months ago, they had cheesecake smoothies. Not cheesecake-flavored… cheesecake. As in, *an entire fucking slice *of the stuff went into the blender. If you can get that through a straw, I’m guessing you’ll be all right with some foie gras.

Bonus points if you can do it in a Chairman Kaga accent.

Doesn’t *everybody *who’s the least bit sane and/or informed hate PETA?

Horses aren’t herd animals?

Well, in the wild I suppose horse are herd animals, but the common notion of herd animals is cows, sheep, goats, llamas, etc.

Well! I might as well point out that I don’t eat any of this stuff. Foie, veal, suckling, baby lamb… none. They look tasty when FGIE talks about them, and I could hardly care less if you guys are eating them. If put in front of me I’d probably eat it.
I’m more of a sushi guy.

Well, sushi is just freaking awesome, and quite good for you too, especially if you can avoid the temptation of rolls. Sadly, I can’t.

There’s a place near here that has an $11.99 sushi lunch special whereby I get a spicy tuna and spicy salmon roll…at least twice a week. It ends up being about 16 pieces and I am stuffed afterwards…with pickled ginger breath…

Not much reading on the sad-o-meter that you can’t resist sushi rolls. I don’t know, maybe there is something wrong with the controls [/tinkering]

Mmm, sushi lunch  This is a weird thread and it’s strange you bring up what you do. Lately I seem to have an enhanced ability to resist temptations. All at once I quit drinking, eat sack lunches and home meals, got my schedule under control, budget goals… Is it abnormal psychology? I had been psyching myself up for awhile…

It’s being banned in California? Oh no, I enjoy foie gras, even if I’ve only had it a couple of times. I’m also woefully ignorant about the way it is harvested and why it’s being banned; it can’t be worse than the way cows, pigs, and chickens are raised and slaughtered in the US, can it?

It is (the ban) and it isnt (the alleged inhumane raising practices).

Read the article in the OP it gives you pretty decent info.

I’m going to have sushi for lunch today! A Kimchi roll and an Alaska roll! YUMMY!

I believe Dean and Delucca sells it - that’s a fancy grocery store, not a fancy restaurant.

The liver is fattened by force-feeding the birds. Opponents say it’s cruel; supporters say it’s the way they eat in the wild (though obviously only when the food is available in such quantities) and that they enjoy overeating.

I’ve only had foie gras once. Went to this fancy French restaurant near the beach and ordered 2 versions of it, one in a pate form and the other was just seared with duck or lamb. It was heavenly, though the pate form started tasting odd after I ate about half of it (it was really huge). Still have a mind to try it again, moreso now that it’s going to be banned here

For the record, I’ll eat pretty much anything. Intestines, guts, eyeballs, head, brain, I’ve had them all. Helps that I’m Asian and this stuff is common in our supermarkets

Mmmmmm… I could go for some kimchi right now  A local place has a ‘vampire roll’ (or something), garlicy and full of kimchi. Not sure what’s in an Alaska roll… salmon?

But we’re on totally different tracks! I’m not actually going to buy any kimchi at this juncture. I’m just letting it all go for the time being. I had a Swiss and salami sandwich for lunch, and the best part of it was that I could get back to work in 20 minutes.

I want to be out of debt, invest. And there’s a vacation coming up…

Speaking of sushi, if any of you are near Rochester, go check out California Rollin’. I just had the good fortune of being introduced to it last weekend, and ho boy is it tasty.
