One of the joys of moderating this message board is that you have to read pretty much everything in your forum. This is also one of the downsides as well. I refer specifically to this thread.
You know … it’s one thing to have a discussion about a movie and reveal some of the plot points, but goddamit, to start a thread about spoilers just to reveal the spoilers is just asking for trouble. For God’s sake, show a little mercy to those of us who have no choice but to have to read them.
:: sigh :: Guess I won’t have to go see The Others now.
Rough. I hate that about the internet. I can read the script to a movie I’m looking forward to months in advance. Somehow I just can’t resist. Like the kid looking for his Christmas presents. Spoils the surprise every time. It’s just too damn easy, but sometimes I am able to stop myself. Like for the X-Files. But I can’t imagine being required to. Ouch. Now I feel sorry for the Mods who had to read through Gullywumper’sball-shaving thread.
Trust me Euty, go see The Others anyway. I overheard the plot spoilers in line at a convenience store the same day I had plans to see the movie. I was pretty pissed off at the time but, to my surprise, I still found it to be a very effective, old-fashioned ghost story. If you liked The Innocents, The Haunting (1961) or The Uninvited, you’ll like The Others whether you know the spoiler or not.
Hmmm…maybe we need a new Moderator-friendly protocol?
SPOILER alert! (Note to Mods: There is no objectionable material in the remainder of this post, cross my heart and hope to die)

Of course, some nitwit would abuse the privilege:

Darth Vader is his father!!! Okay, now that the Mods have all stopped reading: here’s a link to a site that’s all about drugs and stuff!
Now I’m gonna cut and paste the whole Sunday New York Times! Woo-hoo! When the Mods are away, the trolls will play!
Er…I really hate spoiling movies for other people, so I always make sure to put a big spoiler warning on my posts if I am going to give away plot details. I didn’t realize that mods have to read those posts anyway. Should I just never post spoiler info?
This is like item #567 on my list of “Why I Don’t Want to Be a Mod”.
