No, he didn’t donate to support the cave. He donated to regional cave clean-ups. That means, mostly, cleaning up trash out of roadside and show caves. There is no money in the fund for erosion control. Besides, if he really fucking wanted to prevent erosion into that particular cave, hmmm, I dunno, maybe he should leave a buffer around the entrance?
And you’re berating me for not responding to ONE condescending point in an entire condescending post? You really want to paint ME as the irresponsible one, don’t you? Rather than the guy who actively destroyed the entire area. Noooooo, it’s not his fault. It’s the fault of the guy grieving over the loss. I can’t decide if you people are bigger idiots or scumbags.
First you say he donated to the cave clean up fund,
then you say he didn’t. Make up your fucking mind.
If this guy had to put up with your fucking whining, he probably followed furt’s advice and cut the trees down just to piss in your kool-aid.
I’m sure you and your buds could go up there and with a little elbow grease create and effective solution using brush and stuff from the felled trees to keep too much runoff and erosion from entering the mouth of the cave. If you’re interested in doing something other than boohooing.
As for the example I bothered to look up for you, I stopped when I found the first one. Maybe you should practice your reading skills and follow along with ALL the comments on your thread, you might actually learn something…
And that’s your problem. You would destroy something beautiful, or shrug your shoulders when something like this is destroyed, just because you’re irritated with the messenger. I’ll leave it as an exercise for the reader to determine who’s the bigger asshole.
Second, you giant, giant idiot:
He did NOT contribute to clean up his own cave. There are so many in the region, in fact, that I doubt his cave will ever see a penny from it. The entire thing could have been prevented if he were a responsible landowner, and not a scorched-earth, greedy prick to begin with.
THAT’S rich. The last resort of someone who has no fucking clue is to act condescendingly to someone who does. Skip it. You’re not spinning this so it’s my fault.
I would like to understand your reasoning for this big Ol’ blurt out. Really.
In viewing a thread that the OP is an knowledgeable environmentalist, angered at an ecosystem going awry due to the guy who bought the land, and destroyed it, yep, destroyed it, aside from whatever socially acceptable rules are in force, your response is to destroy more in a , what, “Har Har, Pave it Baby!” that’ll teach ya! Um, you are not “pretty green”, and need to go back and learn about ecological systems.
I don’t mean to pick on you, but, lately, in my line of work, “sustainable” and “green” are becoming easy bywords. On the one hand, after doing the real work of that for decades, I’m happy that the mainstream finally at least gets a bit of it. On the other, those terms have now easily become diluted.
Sorry to hear about your condition; you have my sympathies. They’re doing amazing things these days with prosthetic humor implants, and I hope you’ll look into it.
Me, I’ll plant wildflowers but that is just because that’s what I prefer. But I won’t be doing it until I can be sure that those that I’ve displaced won’t just go build houses on something nice!
disengenuous OP, Scylla, Ed Zotti getting scared of profanity in thread titles driving people away from Straight Dope Chicago, Rand Rover doing what he does best…
Don’t think I would classify Ogre’s OP as disingenuous. While I do think he has painted some things to encourage the “ain’t it awful” response, he is truly passionate in what he believes to be correct. He just has trouble comprehending how anyone could have and/or be able to justify a differing opinion.
