That’s “going down to the ocean” for you people that do not speak Bawlmerese. I grew up in Baltimore so I know how to speak the language.

I’m excited! My in-laws rented a small condo in Ocean City, MD for a week. My SIL is also going to be there with her 3 kids. I’m going down with her this weekend and my husband is going to join us later in the week. I haven’t been to a beach in several years. I LOVE the water! Unfortunately, my husband doesn’t like beaches or water- he would much rather be in the woods. That’s why he’s only coming down for a couple of days. I’m praying that the weather stays nice so’s we can spend time on the beach and playing miniature golf and whatnot!

Does anyone know of any groovy places to eat and/or shop in Ocean City MD? I’m kinda looking for “quirky” stores and the like. Thanks!

Boy, Ocean City has always been kinda empty of that stuff. It’s mostly touristy shops on the boardwalk in my experience.

But don’t miss the Kite Shop. That’s my favorite place down there. It definitely counts as different, and in a worthwhile way, too.

Hey hon! Have fun goin’ downy ocean, and try and make it to Bawlmer fer a cheezesteak at Cap’n Harvey’s or to see dem O’s!

Unfortunately, Jonathan is right. OC is, for the most part, Harborplace writ large. I’ll think about it, tho. There’s a pretty cool used bookstore at Coastal Hwy and…somewhere around 80th St., IIRC. Ocean side, right on the corner. That’s all that pops into my head right off the bat.

KITE LOFT - on the boards and above 120th by JR’s Ribs (a must eat for those who exercise their position at the top of the food chain).

There is a used book store around 164th.

The Hobbit is great food. Big portions at a big price.

Neat Garden store (terra cotta galore) right over the line, about 1 mile into Del. for quirky stuff.

Sandy’s, over the line into Del. is EXCELLENT for name brand shoes at a super discount.

Olive Tree (above 120th) has good Italian food.

(most of my references are relative to 120th 'cause we own a place there)

Tanks fer the sejestions, hons! I’m not sure how much we’ll be on the boardwalk since we’ll have 2 small children and a baby in tow. It seems like I’ve packed everythink but the kitchen zink! (I love speaking Bawlmerese with people who understand it!)

Sorry Punny, the condo where we’ll be staying is a little teeny place and it’s going to be chock-full of kids stuff and baby stuff and adult stuff, plus all of us! And I WILL miss alla youse…I’ll just have to spend the first day I get home, on the 'puter getting my Straight Dope fix!
