Going back into the military - recommend a workout to get ready for training

The first time I went into the Reserves I was a 17 year old idiot. I couldn’t even do half a push-up before I went away for eight weeks of basic training.

Well this time I want to win best student. Please do not suggest long runs, I need to be able to do a workout in an apartment whilst my baby is leeping, here is the equipment I have…

[ul]
[li]A stairmaster[/li][li]workout bands[/li][li]a bunch of pilates and yoga tapes[/li][li]ab roller[/li][li] mat[/li][li] really light weights[/li][/ul]

I need to be able to get my cardio up to snuff for running, my upper body ready for pushups, my strength up to snuff (grip test) and get my abs ready for crunches. I am not worried about the abs, or really the cardio (as I know I can do that), but the other two are what I need help with.

Advice anyone??

I was going to recommend you hearken back to your boot camp days and follow that regimen.

And then I thought that maybe you’ve subconsciously blacked out those memories as thoroughly as I have…

Best student? You mean you have to go through BMT again?!?!

If so, it sucks to be you.

**chique - ** haven’t quite blocked it out, but it’s not really convenient with the bebe and nursing breaks

Airman Doors, USAF - Yes, have much sympathy for me, at least it’s much easier this time. Instead of doing eight weeks at boot camp it’s one evening a week and occasional weekends.

I just want to do really, really well this time

Pack up everything you have, and take it out to your vehicle. load the vehicle, then wait around about 3-4 hours. Drive across town, park for an hour, then drive back home. Clean everything you have, then return it to your home. Sit around waiting for another short time, then turn your TV to the History Channel and watch 2 hours of programming. Repeat next day, making sure that you wake to do calisthenics at 4:45am.

Seriously, running is the best thing you can do. Work up to 2 miles + a day to be fit enough to pass a PT test.

I think you should do the stairmaster for an hour and a half at the then do sit ups and pushups till you throw up. That is almost what you do in the Army. At least that is what I had to do. The stairmaster sub for the running.
