Going For My Eyelid Surgery In A Week And A Half

But first, on Monday I have to go for what is called a “Goldman Field Of Vision” exam which is how serious my drooping eyelids are so Medicare will cover it. They’re also going to try to get the bags under my eyes (in which I could catch rainwater if I wanted) approved, but no gauarantees.

One thing bothers me though: they want to put me under general anesthesia instead of a twilight sleep (can’t recall the name of the med). I’ve never liked that, because some of my teeth aren’t real and I have a phobia of being seen without them. No one (except for the times I had to have major surgery) has ever seen them not even D, in either of our marriages.

They did indicate that I may have a choice, but strongly recommended the general (I guess because of the pain?)

I remember some of you or someone you know had this done. How was your/their anesthesia administered?

Can’t say I am looking forward to 2 black eyes and the itch, though.

Thanks

Quasi

Most likely I will be doing the same in a couple months. Lucky me - my family has the genetic curse of oculopharyngeal muscular dystrophy…and one of the early signs is drooping eyelids.
However, my mother, my aunt, my brother and my cousin all had this operation (my cousin had his just a few months ago) and it is not painful at all. My cousin said the only thing he felt was the little sting of the shot to numb the area - otherwise, nothing.
Yes, you do look like you were in a wild-ass bar fight for a few days, but other than that, you should be just fine.
I am kind of looking forward to getting it done - will increase my vision and will stop making me look like I am always about ready to fall asleep.
In other words - nothing whatsoever to worry about.
