Awesome! I’ll be going to Flux in Westmont. I’ll do my own before and afters, but they won’t be as fancy. I actually did tell the lady I’d be making a big change from long to short, and asked if there was someone who specialized in short hair. Becky (my stylist) apparently has curly hair, so she knows how to work with it. /fistpump
One thing that actually worked for me was to find someone who was also comfortable with men’s haircuts, because then they’re used to dealing with shorter hair. (Well, that and my boyfriend tends to use the same stylist I do.) And if they have short or crazy hair themselves, then they seem to be more willing to do short and crazy stuff for their clients.
Before picture. Lots of frizz and kinda limp, because it was 80 and humid today. The curls are more cohesive and a bit springier earlier in the day, but I didn’t think to take one this morning (it’s going to be wet all morning tomorrow, so this was my last chance to take one). It captures the length well, at least.
I think a short cut’s going to be cute on you. Have fun!
I went from very long to this (since you were talking about colours not found in nature in another thread) - This is an ‘in need a haircut’ version of it.
This is a shorter, more recently cut version here.
I recently went Very Blonde with it (although I am growing it out again) and it took quite a few tries to get it right - this is a shitty picture but it’s one of the few that’s still short here.
I went from below shoulders, to this that was very long in front, to very short in about a three month span. I loved it, but I’m bored with it now, so starting to grow it out.
Good luck with it. It’s just hair, it grows. Have fun.
ETA: I’m terrified of having mom hair!
I’m too late to give advice, but I also went from long hair (mid-back) to a pixie in one fell swoop. I loved it! Like you, my hair is wavy/curly when long and straight when short. I kept the pixie for years, and now I have an asymmetrical bob. I keep semi-jokingly threatening to go back to the pixie, but both my husband and my stylist like my hair a bit longer and I do like this length a lot.
Looking forward to your “after” shot!
Thanks for the support!
Here’s the after. I definitely think the cut is good; she spent an hour and a half on it! It looks ok, although this style has a bit of a grandma feel to it (I *really *need to find my glasses, I know they’ll make me look younger). Interestingly, my hair is straight when short–except for two curly areas in front (they’re not cowlicks, the hair there just grows out curlier than on the rest of my head). I was really surprised to see how much body I had on top, once the length was gone.
I bought some “cream hairspray,” and I’ll experiment with it tomorrow to see what kind of styles I can do. And I love the length! It was awesome to open all the windows on the expressway and feel the wind in my hair, without spending hours tearfully detangling it later.
Also, she did my eyebrows, not that there was a lot, but she cleaned up the strays. I can finally say I’ve been waxed. Oh, and they were selling Girl Scout cookies and I got a box of Thin Mints! Could this day get any better?
I like it. Very cute.
Have you washed it yet? That is one of the strangest feelings when you go from long to short. Your hands want to keep going after they run out of hair.
Looks good, rachelellogram! You too, Gleena! Those glasses look good on you.
Cute! I don’t know about you, but when I wore mine short, I also tended to ramp up the makeup. Could have just been all that extra time, though!
These are contradictory. Unless more than half of the population (women) aren’t included in “anyone”.
Rachel: I’m a pretty low-maintenance girl overall and feel kinda silly responding to your post, but what the hell!
I did a radical cut three years ago when a friend was dying of cancer (as a tribute to her losing her locks to radiation) I went from thick, gorgeous hair that was at the top of my butt, to barely an inch on top, shaved in the back w/a #5 blade and it looked awesome. HOWEVER, I’m growing it back out, now. I got TONS of compliments on it initially as it fit my face/head/overall look. But, I’ll gently recommend you take it to your shoulders FIRST, (or your jawline) and see how you like it before you go mad at the salon and ask your stylist to crew cut you! Just trust me on this! It’s liberating as HELL to have it initially cut off, and yes, it’s easy to do in the morning, but you will miss having it. I found myself getting a cut once every three weeks and I finally decided I wanted some hair again. I haven’t had it cut in 3-4 months now and the compliments I’m getting are all in favor! I use Garnier Super Stiff gel if I want to paste it down, and I wear a hat when I don’t want any product in it. Again though, I wouldn’t go too drastic. You may regret it (even though it will grow back) Good luck!
I gently recommend reading the whole thread before posting. The cut was done yesterday.
I like it! I think you look great; it’s a youthful, flattering cut.
Nice new 'do!
And I know what you mean about the hair washing thing. My biggest problem was still squeezing out a giant blob of shampoo instead of just a little dab.
I predict you’ll be very happy this summer when you don’t have a whole bunch of sweaty hair laying on your neck
It was kind of Audrey Hepburnish when I left the salon. So far I’ve had crazy stand-up straight bed hair, a fauxhawk, and now I’ve tried brushing it all forward and doing curlybangs. It’s fun! I haven’t spent any time with a blowdryer yet, but I’d like to try out something with a fuller/taller texture.
NM
Looks pretty good.
Have you had a play with it? Are you happy?
I dig. Good choice of cut.
Ooh Rachel it looks good! I did the same thing this weekend, actually. My hair is of a similar texture to yours, and I generally flat-iron it when trying to style. I don’t have a great picture of the before on this machine, but it was about shoulder length when I walked into the salon and now it’s very very short.
