I’m going to Montreal for a week (July 10-17) and am looking for things to do.
I am taking a course there so I will be busy from 8:00-5:00 Monday to Friday. I’ll have all of Sunday the 11th off and a few hours on Saturday the 17th.
Any good museums I should go see? Any other attractions?
Also I’d love to go to a good steak house. Any recommendations? I’d like to have a good dinner, but I’d like to keep the price the less than $100.
Thanks!

Museums? Depends what you like. In the way of historical museums we’ve got the McCord Museum of Canadian History, the Pointe-à-Callière museum of the archaeology of Montreal, the Marguerite Bourgeoys museum at the Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours chapel, the Château Ramezay, and the Maison Saint-Gabriel (warning, embedded audio).
Science museums include the Biodome and Botanical Gardens (biggest in the world after Kew!) and the Redpath Museum (one of those awesome old cabinets of curiosity, complete with dinosaurs).
The main art museums are the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and Canada’s only Museum of Contemporary Art, which has free nights on Wednesdays.
As for great architecture, your main items are the churches – Notre-Dame Basilica, St. Joseph’s Oratory, and Marie-Reine-du-Monde Cathedral in particular, along with the Chateau Dufresne. Finally, let me put in a good word for the metroand its art and architecture.
I’m not so good for the steak houses, but I’m sure someone can recommend one. There’s a new one that just opened in the Village, at the corner of Ste-Catherine and Visitation (one block east of Beaudry metro).
Strip clubs are open very late…
Have lunch at Jardin Neslon in old Montreal.
