Going to New Orleans for a week! We leave tomorrow, tell me what not to miss.

Unless I missed it, no one has mentioned Frenchmen St. GREAT music with no cover, usually. Very good food. Walking distance from Bourbon St. Fun, fun, fun.

You missed it, and some places do have a cover

I just took my daughter there in December for a father/daughter long weekend.

Every time I go to New Orleans, here are the places I always go to:

No one’s mentioned Jacques Imo’s? Very good restaurant. You won’t be disappointed. Related fun, you can take the St. Charles street car all the way up there.

Good for you for staying in Marigny. You’ll love it there. Great music. I recommend d.b.a. in the Marigny district. 2nd choice would be Blue Nile.

On Bourbon Street check out Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop Bar. It’s on the far end of Bourbon, away from Canal. Live music, fun bar, lit by candles.

New Orleans resident here. I would recommend The Original Pierre Maspero’s. Great food and it won’t break you either.

Crawfish etouffee. I think we ate it at the Gumbo Shop, but that was 8 years ago, so I’m not positive. But damn, it was good. I don’t usually remember what I ate at a restaurant, but this was an exception.

I live in the DC area, where you can get cuisine from around the world. But regional cuisine is another matter. Try to find a decent beignet or a good po’boy here, let alone a good plate of crawfish etouffee.

So Renee, how was it? I’d like to hear about your trip.

In 1981 my girlfriend and I went ona trip to NOLA and my parents “dropped by” (Long story). Anyway, they did treat us to breakfast at Brennan’s so the next morning I said breakfast was on me and we went to the du Monde for the beignets and coffee. I was exhorting them to eat up (“You’re embarrassing me!”) but even after stuffing ourselves, it was less than $6

I’m sorry, I meant to update this and never got around to it. We had a wonderful time! It really felt more like visiting a different country than an American city. I’ve never been anywhere else where the entire economy appears to be based on partying. Highlights were the food (basically all of it, we loved just about every place we ate), walking around just taking things in, bar hopping, and live music everywhere. I’d absolutely go back, and recommend it to anyone.

Thank you all so much for the recommendations!

Now that you’ve been, what/where would YOU recommend people go the next time they’re there? Which recommendations posted above were you able to check out?
