Going to Ruth's Chris Tonight--Tell Me About Steak

Flipshod described RC as “medium to fancy”. For a poor gal like me, it’s just pure fancy!

I’ve only been to eat there one time and ordered the filet medium rare. It was the best steak I’ve ever eaten in my entire life! It practically melted in my mouth …

I hope you enjoyed yours as much as I did Tikki.

I oredered mine medium but I did have a bite of rare filet courtesy of someone who likes her steak still mooing. I also got horseradish for mine, which some of you may consider sacrilage, but it was watered down and very, very, very mild.

The thing is I’m not really a picky eater so I feel kind of bad for not liking the steak. I had my Dad finish about a third of mine. I can’t remember the last time I let him do that.

Oh well, with luck, we’ll get to a seafood restaurant again next year. King crabs beware!

Well sure, for a woman that’s fine. But for a man, going with wine misses out on the whole Conan, Viking, Grog the caveman, “Wench! Bring me a dead cow and an ale!” kind of appeal. Now if the steakhouse would bring you a tankard of wine instead of those weenie little glasses, it might be ok.

Eh, if you didn’t like it, you didn’t like it. You tried the rare, and it was not your thing. Too bad they didn’t have the lamb for you. Now a rack of lamb is a fancy froo froo dish that I could couple with a merlot. Don’t know why we don’t eat more baby sheep in the US. Mighty tasty they are.

Ummmm… no. The only thing to drink with steak is ale. Not lager… ale! Hence teh name of the restaurant that was so popular in the 70s.

Bell bottoms and day glo orange were popular in the 70’s too. If you must have alcohol – and I generally prefer not to – wine, even red, is definitely preferable to beer when eating a steak.

Or anything else for that matter.

Yeah yeah. So I got sloppy with my terminology. If you will not notice upthread I did specify ale. And if you drop out the ale from the call to the wench, you sound much less Conan like.

Minor point-last I checked, lambs were not green or scaled, making them neither veggie or fishy, so they would still be meaty, no?

Wow - where does one go to take “smug lessons”? You seem to excel at it.

It’s a natural talent.
