I’m going to a SF suburb for work and instead of camping out in the hotel room as per usual, I think I’m gonna head to SF. I really could use a night out alone any suggestions? I’ll be relying on BART.
Thanks

A few suggestions:
Blues, dancing, drinks: Boom Boom Room
Kinky San Francisco shit: Bondage-A-Go-Go
Tourist meccas: Alcatraz Bar and Grill or Ruby Skye
BART stops at midnight (ish), so be sure to look at the time the last train leaves the station from where you are in the City to where you need to end up. You don’t want to have to wait hours to take one of the few-and-far-between bus trips that is the lone public transport after BART stops running. You also probably don’t want to have to pay an arm and a leg for a cab (though if you don’t mind, you could stay out til any hour you wanted).
For SF nightlife, it totally depends on what you’re interested in and what kinds of people you like to be around. It looks like Ghanima has already given you some good suggestions. Might I also suggest Cafe Du Nord , the Cat Club, or a visit to some of the North Beach venues if you want to surround yourself with moneyed pretty people? If you’d rather a brewpub with decent tapas, try the Thirsty Bear brewing company, which is a quick walk from two different downtown BART stations.
It’s been a while since I lived in the Bay Area, but it looks like these places are still happening.
If you’re into great movies, the Castro is showing Luchino Visconti’s masterpiece The Leopard with Burt Lancaster. Just a quick Muni transfer from any of the downtown BART stations.
The Roxie (1 block off of the 16th st. BART station) is showing a collection of interesting films: Henry Cartier-Bresson: The Impassioned Eye, Outfoxed and Orwell Rolls: In His Grave. Plus the Landmark Embarcadero is showing some good arthouse films (plus there’s some good eats nearby).
The San Francisco Symphony is performing Sibelius’ marvellous Symphony #2. Cheap seats–$12 IIRC–(in the chorus loft, above and behind the orchestra, facing the conductor) are available beginning two hours before the show at Davies (off the Opera Plaza BART station).
