In less tham 6 hours I’ll be heading to the sports clinic for operation #3 on my wrist.
I had some tears in the tendons that were repaired the first & second surgery. I also had one of the bones shaved down so it would be even with the other bone when I make a fist.
The previous surgery was to stop my wrist from popping & grinding but it didnt work - so this one is a more permanent remove a bone and fust the other ones together - it’s called the 4 C’s. They also have to take some of the hip bone to put in the wrist - ugh! That means no gettin away with wearing underwear this time.
I never realised just how much I used my left hand… I may be right handed but I had some awkward moments having to teach myself how to adjust to not using my left hand. My youngest is the opposit - she is a lefty but does a lot of things with her right hand instead. I should pit my own stupid eff-a-dee wrist, but oh well.
So, just incase, I posted what I want played at my wake (another thread) - make sure Projammer adheres to it! Until then, I will be at his mercy with a cheesewedge around my arm. This also means I will have to rely on him to dress me for awhile… this could get interesting.
I’ve had lots and lots of surgeries, so let me tell you my post-op strategy: maximum drugs. Yep. As soon as I wake up from the general, they ask me if I’m in pain. Well, I pretty much always am. So they give me drugs. A bit later, they’ll ask again. If my pain is a ‘5’ at that point, I’ll tell them it’s a 6 or 7. When they ask again, it may be down to a 3, but I’ll tell them 4. My strategy is to maximize the drugs so I can sleep (or at least float) through as much of the immediate post-op period as possible, because the post-op period sucks!
I developed what is referred as “Blackberry Thumb”.
Surgery went good & the block worked this time (that gives you a day or two of arm/hand numbness). Left hip hurts like hell though and its not fun to walk around & I have to be careful when sitting.
As for the meds - I try to keep them at a minimum, but i tend to get really moody from the pain… but I get moody with the painpills so its a no-win situation. Luckily I have Saroquel that I can take half & sleep for a few hours, then take the other half and sleep more. And if it gets real bad, I can take a Xanax.
Thanks for the support =)
i’m dyin for a Starbucks extra hot caramel machiatto, but i guess I’ll have to settle for a nap.
