Golden Compass full trailer

This has been a rumor going around since November, when Eva Green spilled the beans in an article in the French magazine Studio. I can’t find anything accept people quoting people referencing the article, and no further or official information.

Ah! I see. It was kind of choppy when I was watching it the first time, and I must have missed that part.

Also, there is a scene where two groups are lined up opposite each other. At least with the left hand group there are severeal dozen daemons visible.

We haven’t had a good steampunk movie in a very long time, and this looks like it’s got those sensibilities to it.

Though, to be honest, I never got that vibe from the books. Apart from the obviously magical things like talking polar bears and knives that cut through dimensions, I tended to imagine the environment as being reasonably ordinary.

Hmmm, a passable little film. I might give it a look.

thinking: I am so there!

And Sam Elliott adds to anything he’s in, but is he always going to play the same character from now on? (In the future, if we see Biblical or ancient Roman or
Medieval epics & Sam Elliot is in the cast, can we be assured of one wise old grizzled cowboy showing up?)

Finally, “Dakota Blue Richards”… I wonder if she was born with the name “Dakota”, hmmmm!

Please name a good steampunk movie! I can only think of LXG!!!

I don’t know if it was Richards’ birth name and I’m not sure if you’re drawing a connection to a certain other young actress, but FWIW “Dakota” was a trendy name chosen by many new parents several years ago, well before Dakota Fanning became famous.

Ooooooh! That looks wonderful!

I want a panzerbjorn. I want a lot of panzerbjorn, and a daemon.
It’s a real pity that I don’t like the third book nearly as well as the first two. I have no idea how they’ll pull it off in movie form at all.

20,000 Leagues Under The Sea?
Steamboy?
Um…
Disney’s Atlantis?

The trailer implies a greater focus on the big picture, rather than a Lyracentric story, which is how I remember the book’s focus. I do hope they keep it up; not only will it elevate the story, it will also lessen the annoyingness of the “kid movie” aspect.

There’s (definitely)Laputa, Castle in the Sky and (arguably) Howl’s Moving Castle by Studio Ghibli, Steamboy by Otomo, Wild, Wild West (well, I enjoyed it), Disney’s Atlantis, and some TV series like Young Jules Verne and the like.
