Golden Needles

Krispy, the difference is that I have given my proposition, the reasons behind my proposition, and at least one reference by professional scientists without a personal axe to grind in favor of my proposition.
“* believe that it certain that they’ve already visited.” is hardly an equal argument.
Lib, unless you are arguing that they were created whole cloth as a sentient species by some “god”, I still hold that unless there are natural tendancies for agression and self-defense, a species will not develop the nature that you propose. Again, I would welcome examples from nature to prove me wrong. I am always ready to change my hypothesis to fit the facts. This isn’t religion or politics, y’know.
Akatsukami, what I’ve read shows that their evidence is backed up by others. If you get a chance to read their book, you’ll be surprised by the range of reverences used and evidence presented.

Yes, I know that very well. That’s why I never mentioned religion or politics. “The Gods Must Be Crazy” is a movie, Slythe, and it isn’t about religion. It’s about a quiet, extremely passive tribe of African Bushmen, small and gentle people, who go bonkers after a Coke bottle falls from an airplane. They think the gods sent it, and because there is only one bottle, useful, they find, for so many things, and because there are so many of them, aggressive behaviors they have never seen among themselves begin to break out.

I raised a perfectly reasonable scenario that proves you wrong, or at least proves that you could be wrong.

Someone has something that other people want. What happens when that happens?

Screwed up on that posting, didn’t I?

Akatsukami, you posting came while I was writing mine. VERY interesting reference!
This tendancy to listen to evidence from both sides of the argument is very bad form, y’know. You’re supposed to pick a side and stick with it, no matter what turns up. What are you, a scientist or something?

Lib, if we get to use movies as scientific references… :o

Heh, no, just an aging computer geek.
Much as it pains me to do so (for, as I indicated in my last post but two, I don’t really believe in ancient technological civilzations), I shall argue against W&B’s position (whilst attempting to be honest about any contradictory evidence that comes along).
Disclaimer: I’ve been reading everything from extrapolations of hard science by hard scientists, to the wildest light of fancy by authors, for over thirty years. If I were offered ten dollars for every name, I still couldn’t come up with a complete list. Credit where credit is due; if I propose an idea that someone else has had, it may be assumed that I’ve just plain forgotten who had it first.
I’d intended this to be my opening salvo, but I see that time marches on. Let this stand merely as a statement of my position, and I’ll go on this evening or tomorrow.

“I don’t just want you to feel envy. I want you to suffer, I want you to bleed, I want you to die a little bit each day. And I want you to thank me for it.” – What “Let’s just be friends” really means

A nice red herring. Too bad I don’t like seafood.

slythe, In the almost 1 year that I’ve been on this board I’ve given the reasons behind my proposition and several references by scientists, astronauts, military leaders, etc. Don’t pretend like I haven’t. So there really is NO difference other than the fact that you have found a couple of guys who have opinions that fit your preconceptions and I have referenced folks that have opinions that fit my way of thinking.

Hmmm…we have one sapient species. And no two anthropologists can agree on any generalities on why it does the things it does. By the rules of induction, we cannot generalize what a sapient species might or might not do (other than known facts about our own) from a population of one.

As I once pointed out here, all known solar systems with terrestrial planets (as opposed to gas giants) follow Bode’s Law. Even though Bode’s Law is presumably coincidental, or at most caused by the effects of Jupiter on orbital distances.

What red herring, Lib? You tried to use a movie (The Gods Must Be Crazy) as an example for your proposition, didn’t you?

Krispy, you are notorious for using the Art Bell show as a scientific reference. Not exactly the highest of standards, IMHO. You are a true believer who doesn’t accept any actual evidence that contradicts your many flying saucer theories.
