Gone in 60 seconds, NASCAR style

OK, in the odd aports news of the day, the number 44 car in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series, driven by Travis Kvapil, was stolen from the Georgia hotel parking lot where the vehicle was parked overnight.

Lest this raise images of some mullet-headed guy leaving half-mile long burnouts on the nighttime streets, the car was actually inside an unmarked trailer, which is what the thieves made off with.

The look on their faces when they opened up the trailer should have been priceless, I’m sure.

It’s a single-car team, apparently without a backup, so unless it’s found in time for today’s tech inspection, Kvapil will miss this week’s race in Atlanta.

The team says that, while they have a car ready for Vegas next week, they don’t have any other “Atlanta-ready” cars.

Somebody - I think Kvapil himself - posted a picture of the trailer and the truck pulling it. I can see the commercial now: “Sure, Chevrolet wins the manufacturer’s championships, but they can’t win if they can’t get to the track, and from the looks of it, they depend on Ford trucks to get them there.” (Or not, as the case may be.)

Apparently, the car has been found, but not the trailer or the rest of its content.
I guess the thief felt there was no way they could sell the car.
