Some attempt by Gibson to get into the Fender-type design market; happens pretty regularly and some of the models are decent-to-great, but guitarists are not very open to change and want Gibsons to be Gibsons, so they rarely become big sellers…

Oh yeah - if you want an RD, or a Blues Hawk, a Marauder, an L6-S - there are a bunch of those non-major-Food-Group models that you can get for a good deal. If you know what features you need, you can end up with a great player.
