He took up the guitar when he was about 11. I started with him, but my interests were in the outdoors, so I didn’t stay with it. He developed into a great blues/rock player. Here he is with his band performing at DJ’s in Alton, IL.
Sounds good - what kinda guitar is that?
I will add a linkto the Great Ongoing Guitar Thread (GOGT)…
Well done.
From the scoop on the lower part of the headstock, I’d go with Ibanez, except the end of the headstock has a little ‘knob’ on it kinda like a Firebird, and the body ‘horns’ don’t say Ibanez to me.
I was thinking it might be an Anderson, but that ain’t right…
I dunno. The body has sort of a Teisco vibe, or maybe Mosrite. Hard to say.
Yeah - I get that, too. Funky upper horn and pickguard, right?
**Rafe **- please don’t mind us; typical guitar geek behavior. This means that we are grooving on your bro, so that issue is under control - now, onto the guitar!
Yes sir. I wonder if it could be a Peavey.

Looks like an Ibanez to me. Headstock matches, upper horn matches, strap screw is not on the horn but around the horn.
As an older brother, I must support other older brothers in promoting their younger brothers when possible.
More importantly, who is your brother? I assume it’s the slightly younger person who is slightly more frequently featured in the video on the left. But assuming I’m wrong, let me know. And in any case, how do I differentiate between the two guitars in audio?
It does sound good, however, there is no “break out” sound. It’s just enjoyable jamming blues. Does your brother do anything singularly identifiable/notable and/or the band in general?
Well, for one, he plays the guitar a heck of a lot better than I do.
The guy on the right is playing bass.
No no no. The headstock definitely does NOT match. In the video, there’s a knob at the end sticking up to give it a reverse headstock vibe. Ibys (or at least current ones) don’t have that.
Yeah, my brother is the guitarist on the left. The bearded dude singing is a bass player, though during a show, they will sometimes switch instruments.
I’m not sure what kind of guitar it is, but I’ll ask. He has a couple Stratocasters, but that’s obviously not one of them.
And to answer jackdavinci, he does have something that he does that is “singularly identifiable”. They end shows with Voodoo Chile. Close your eyes and you’d never know that it’s not Jimi Hendrix on stage. A video of this is posted on their MySpace page.
Oh, I think I see. I missed that, it being fuzzy.
Well, to be fair, necks are interchangeable (on bolt-ons), so we may both be right (or wrong).
Update: It’s a Gibson Victory MVX (link to a youtube clip showing one of them)
One of Gibson’s design departures that never end up going mainstream…
That’s an interesting guitar. What would you call it, a reverse-lawsuit Gibson?
It seems like Matt has a weird Gibson of some sort. I sent him a text asking if that’s it, but I think WordMan is right.
Yep. His is a 1982, just like in the video.
::basks in the glory of guitar geekery vindicated::
(in other words: I really need to get a life ;):D)
Sure - kinda like the failed Gibson Hendrix model that they were going to attempt a year or two ago (they reached a deal with the Hendrix estate and had set the guitar up for production, but the guitar-geek outcry was so huge that they didn’t go forward - a Hendrix model that is anything but a Fender Strat?? Please.) Some attempt by Gibson to get into the Fender-type design market; happens pretty regularly and some of the models are decent-to-great, but guitarists are not very open to change and want Gibsons to be Gibsons, so they rarely become big sellers…
