Good book on Iraq?

I’d like recommendations on a comprehensive, current book on Iraq. It might include how Sadaam came to power, what went on during the Gulf War, what he’s been doing since. I’d like it to include some good evidence for his crimes against his people. Most of my knowledge on this topic comes from magazines (The Economist), newspapers (Wall Street Journal) and various web sites.

Can you recommend a book along these lines?

Thanks.

Try The Saddam Hussien Reader edited by Turi Munthe. It’s a colection of essays and reopts from a whole bunch of different sources. I’ve thumed through some sections and found them intersting/enlightening.

I just heard a radio program discussing this exact topic. They put the book suggestions online: http://www.npr.org/programs/totn/features/2003/mar/iraqbooks/index.html

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve ordered Kenneth Pollack’s The Gathering Storm from Amazon, as well as Robert Kagan’s Of Paradise and Power.
