I’m looking for books, fiction or non- (but preferably with a good narrative voice!) about the history of the city, especially the 1688-9 siege. (MAN, that would make for good drama! Although a little before Brian Friel’s chosen focus, alas.)
I visited Derry for a week last fall, and it was one of my favorite cities in the British Isles. The city’s history is fascinating, and not just the more recent troubles: is there a good Alison Weir-style nonfiction about it? A rocking historical novel? Especially the story of the siege is so engaging and dramatic, it seems like there should be more written about it.
