Good constitutional law resource for amateur?

US Constitutional law is a pretty involved and lengthy subject even for experts, which I am not. In debates on various subjects, the gamut of opinions on constitutional questions ranges from serious scholarly discussion to the asshattery of tax protesters. I have two questions: first, is there a good online resource for looking up whether a particular question or theory of interpretation has already been raised and answered? And secondly, if I found no precedent and believed I had a serious question that no expert in the field had ever addressed before, is there someone knowledgable who’d be willing to consider the question, and if they consider it worthy pass it on to others, perhaps even to debate it in a moot court?

Dunno about online, but you may want to check out commercial outlines used by many law students. Emanuel’s or Gilbert’s were the two most popular publishers when I was in school. I think there was one for Con Law.

Sigh, I hate to be the second person to respond and the second person not to answer your specific questions. That said, IMHO the best Constitutional law resource for anyone is Chemerinksy’s Constitutional Law: Principles and Policies. All of the major interpretations are in there. And it’s simply unparalleled in explaining Constitutional law. My two cents.

The Government Printing Office United States Constitution, an annotated exploration of the constitution, prepared by the Library of Congress’ Congressional Research Service. Fairly neutral, very good resource for boning up on the basics of a given provision’s Supreme Court history.
