Good free people finding website?

An old pal asked me to find his long-ago ex-wife for him. Friend is blind and believes I am a leet hacker with the computer. I do not wish to disabuse him of this notion. 411.com didn’t help. There was a site a few years back that gathered info from a bunch of different sites, but I have forgotten the name. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanking you!

Did you simply try Google? What information do you have about the person? You can add various possibilities and put information in quotation marks to cut down responses.

Try pipl.com or zabasearch.com

There are myriad sites that will do a ‘people search’, zabasearch.com, intellius.com and pipl.com are but a few. To do a really thorough search may entail paying a ‘private investigator’.
As other posters have already stated, google is the place to start. The more information that you have on this person, the better your odds of locating them. You state that this is an ‘ex-wife’, do you know if she has remarried and/or relocated?
These might be important clues in deciding how and where to search.

Facebook can be pretty fantastic for this.

Ex-wife, so he should have her social security number on an old tax form. You should be able to find out loads of information for under $50 which in my book is practically free when you consider the amount of time you will save. If you wanted to be shifty (and quite possibly illegal) you could run a free credit report under her name. I do not recommend doing this.

The ones I like/use, in decreasing preference:

http://www.usa-people-search.com/‎

(usa-people-search used to be my favorite but it doesn’t return as much info as it used to.)

If you are looking for a woman and only know a maiden name, try also classmates.com, reunion/alumni sites for the school, etc. If she has used a previous last name in the past 10-20 years, the above will probably have it.

Thanks for all the replies. pipl is what I was thinking of. I found her through Google, had to do some sleuthing and backtracking, but I did find her. My friend still thinks I’m the berries.
