Don’t know why I thought of this just now, but a great Supergroup, called “Stuff,” had some grooving tunes.
It helps if you dig keys, because Richard Tee is all over them tracks. I have “Do You Want Some of This” in my book and play it not infrequently, if I do a cover show or just wake up the old people at a party.
And where’s the love for Herbie? If Richard Tee has gone, Herbie’s still “doing it” (to quote the title of a tune he did). He’s got some hip people in his new version of the Headhunters – I’m crazy about his drummer, her name I can’t remember, but she’s happening. Old school, got to love Mike Clark and Mr. Jackson, though – that’s where the funk came from, man! Patrice Rushen, “Haw Right Now” pretty much vibes of Herbie on Rhodes piano.
“Desatively Bonnaroo” (sp) was one of my first Mac albums – love those arrangements. That’s some stone funk on that one.
