Good gifts for parents of babies?

Our new neighbors have invited my husband and I over for a snarkfest viewing of Duck Dynasty this weekend. Last weekend we loaned them a cat carrier for a tragic feline event, and they gave us their old couch they had just replaced. The couch is a real winner, and I’d like to show up with an appreciative gift basket as thanks for both the couch and the hospitality. They have a 22 month old and a 5 month old, and I’d love some suggestions for appropriate items in the basket to accompany the stuffed animals, chocolates and Starbucks card I was planning to include. Any suggestions?

cake. everyone likes cake.

A lasagna, so they don’t have to cook for a night

Massages and booze.

Massages and booze and babysitting.

Books for the kiddies. For the wee ones, I like the plastic bath books that come with a floating toy that matches the story. Example

Yeah, books. Here’s a thread with a bunch of suggestions. The best ones are the ones that I suggested, of course.

5 months is a bit young for booze. Unless you meant, like, wine spritzers or something…

That might lead to Kid #3.

Seriously, take a dish. I frequently make lasagna for parents with a new baby. Or I bake them a loaf of bread. Or both. Someone once got us a gift certificate to a service that delivered food from a variety of area restaurants, but I don’t know if that is still a thing.

A pot of soup or chili is something else good; a hungry parent can just warm up a bowl with or without the rest of the fam.

I would say babysitting gift certificates, but I haven’t actually heard of such a thing.

Otherwise, I bet a decent bottle of wine might be appreciated. With babies, you sometimes just need a little extra help relaxing!

I got a friend with a baby a teething ring necklace similar to the one on this blog site, and it seemed to make a good gift for mom: pretty + practical.

Other than that: maybe an Amazon card, so they can order whatever the hell they want/need and it shows up at their door?
