Good heavens, we got a new $5 and nobody told me?

Just found out that the Bank of Canada unveiled a new $5 bill, in the same series as the new $10 that came out last year. It features winter sports and an excerpt from Roch Carrier’s The Hockey Sweater.

I found this out quite by accident while visiting the Bank’s website, and I’m very annoyed nobody told me this sooner. Hmph.

AND you’re running for public office?

(your middle initial wouldn’t be ‘W’, would it?)

I just heard this on the radio and it was sort of news to me. Of course, I had heard that they were thinking about a new $5 coin, but nothing much more than that.

Well considering they only unveiled it yesterday you shouldn’t be too hard on yourself. I have to say I like it a lot, and I can’t wait to see what the other ones will look like.

It was in the paper here…made front page even ( that’s how exciting our city is! ) I only happen to even see the paper because I took my daughter to McD’s for breakfast and the guy inline ahead of us had a paper with him…and there it was.

I’m glad it wasn’t a $5 coin! My purse is heavy enough with all my regular junk, toonies and loonies.

Shouldn’t you go to Tim’s or Wendy’s for breakfast not McDonald’s…traitor

Hey, at least I know who the prime minister of Canada is.

I have yet to run into it.

Black Jack Chirac? Or was that France?

I always get those two countries confused.

What, you didn’t notice the new ten-spot when it came out a few months ago?
Don’t they tip you well at the gay strip club

Yay. It’s got “The Hockey Sweater” on it.

Anyone else remember the animated short with that story?

Any Canadopers want to send me one? I’ll trade you your choice of State Quarter!

I was a bit surprised when I saw the article in the paper as well. After work I went to the bank and traded a twenty for four of them… all shiny and new. Then I went and bought a hamburger…

I suspect that they are going to be taken up more rapidly than the new tens, because the five-dollar note takes a hell of a lot of beating and wears out more quickly than the ten…

But now I can say to people from other countries: our money has our national sport* on it. What does yours have?

*Okay, I know the official national sport of Canada is lacrosse. But I am not an official.

Feynn got one yesterday when he went to the Legends of Hockey thingie.

It’s currently his prized possession, but I had to point out that in a few months, he’ll be swimming in them.

The way the loonie’s going, that might be a fair rate of exchange soon

Actually, both Lacrosse and Hockey are national sports of Canada - we have two!

There you go - is that an astute political compromise, or what?

Matt, are you taking notes on how it’s done?

That’s really interesting, Northern Piper.

Speaking of astute political compromise, take a new ten and a new five, put them side by side, and compare the order in which French and English are used in the various locations of the notes.

Dammit!

I didn’t know either.

I feel so out of the loop.

Hey, congratulations on the new money!

You’ll find that these are easier to carry around than pelts and whale jerky.
