I recently acquired the complete discography of Floater at the recommendation of a friend and I’m listening to the album Burning Sosobra as I type this. Very nice sound, goes from dreamy to hard as nails without the growly vocals that keep me from enjoying most hard/metal bands–and you’ve got to love a band that uses lines from Emily Dickinson and does Doors covers (“Waiting For The Sun,” and it’s GREAT!) They’re a local Portland product and deserve more recognition…
Give Korn a listen. Like others in this thread, I’m not much for metal but I like their cover of “Another Brick in the Wall”.
Haven’t read the whole thread, so forgive me if this is addressed elsewhere…
On Howard Stern this week, he was playing some music brought to his attention by Richard Christy - a Stern show worker, and former drummer for Death and Iced Earth, IIRC. The music Stern was riffing on had animals for vocalists - one was called Caninis, (spelling must be wrong, no Wiki) which had a dog growling and snarling as the lead vocalist. One band had vocals by a pig, and one a fucking parrot. Anyone else heard this stuff?
Some of the “vocals” weren’t as bad as some human vocals I’ve heard.
And thanks again for all the recommendations.
Joe
Yeah, he briefly talked about having some of those guys in and then nixed the idea when he got a bunch of negative emails. I would’ve liked to hear him interview Chris Barnes.
Speaking of good heavy metal without cookie monster vocals . . . I bought GWAR’s new album yesterday and it’s great. It’s called Beyond Hell and it tells a story of them going to hell to fight satan. Very good metal from a great band who DOES NOT take themselves seriously at all. I will say that I don’t yet like it as much as I like their 2004 release War Party, though.
