This is probably an IMHO question, but there are some facts that I need. I am planning to rework our app into a restful client and am thinking about using a javascript framework like AngularJS. I want to know if there is an IDE that allows you to easily find definitions in JavaScript files like Eclipse allows you to select an identifier and hit F3 and be pointed to that definition. Does IntelliJ do this?
I’m using RubyMine, which is IntelliJ targeted to Ruby apps. I do a fair amount of JavaScript programing as part of my project, and it does have the ability to jump into a function definition. I’m sure that IntelliJ IDEA has the same ability.
While not exactly an IDE, I really like the text editor Sublime Text. It’s just beautiful and streamlined, with a lot of under-the-hood power that’s there if you need it, but stays out of the way when you don’t. It has the goto-definition feature you’re asking for and a lot lot more.
It’s not free, but it was one of the best purchases I’ve made for general purpose programming / file editing – despite owning a lifetime subscription to another great editor, UltraEdit. Sublime is just a lot slicker and less intrusive in terms of UI design.
There are a variety of plugins available for it, including a JavaScript debugger.
