Well I do, anyway. I wasn’t talking about Hillary - I was talking about the potential for a US president with a (relatively) ethical foreign policy.
The International executive board of my union (AFSCME) decided to endorse Hillary, so as an employee of said union I have to officially and publically support Hillary. Go Hillary.
That being said: Several of my co-workers got sent to Iowa last month to campaign for Hillary, and I am SO glad I didn’t have to go.
The weird thing is that AFSCME Council 31 (Illinois) has decided to go against the International union and endorse Obama (duh), and so has many of its members and employees volunteering for Obama all over Iowa right now. That means you’ve got people wearing AFSCME t-shirts campaigning for both Hillary and Barack this week.
And again, I can’t tell you how glad I am that I didn’t get sent to Iowa. Officially: Go Hillary. But between youse and me, this thread title gives me the warm fuzzies.
According to this site, we’ve picked six of the last nine winners.
And the bold is how I keep misreading the thread title. Welcome to Iowa! Now go back!
Or alternatively, once you’ve gone Barack, you’ll never go back
Anyone know where to find stats on who won past caucus? I Bush did and so did Keri a different year.
Just back from my first caucus. It was a lot more interesting than I thought it would be. Had a few interesting discussions, overheard a lot more, and actually had a warm fuzzy feeling of really participating in the process.
There were about 300 people pushing the fire-code envelope in a room that could seat maybe 100 comfortably, and only about 25 chairs. The other Dem princinct using the same facility looked like they had about twice the number of people. Apparently this is a huge turnout compared to the last several elections. We had several journalists, including a very nice Brit who was really into the process.
I’m glad I went and I expect to do it again in 4 years. And if anyone cares, of our ten delegates, Obama got 4, Hillary got 4, and Edwards got two.
The news is saying that Obama has won. Sweet.
Sweet indeed! Not only did he come in first, but even the pundits are saying he has a great chance to make a run - go ahead Hillary try and pull the electability card. It won’t work.
I really hope his message of change continues through the coming year and he only gains the momentum he has begun!
Yay!!! Barak!! My experience was almost identical to Mrs Cake’s. Too many people in a not big enough room, but a warm, fuzzy feeling keeping every happy and cooperative.
There was a slooooow old guy registering the A-G’s at the door, so in a frenzy of irritation I barged behind the scenes to assist. My frenzy of irritation turned quickly into a fervor of democracy and by the end of the night I’d registered at least 50 folks, processed a bunch, lead head counts, passed out snacks and water, and had the actual volunteers thinking I was in charge. Then I ended up volunteering to be a delegate at the county in March.
Birdman thinks I may be an alien impostor impersonating his wife.
Way to go, Birdman’s pod wife!
Just now on NPR I heard someone describe Hillary as having “positioned herself as the inevitable Democratic nominee”, and that’s one of the problems I had with her campaign. From the start, she (and her supporters) acted like her victory was a foregone conclusion.
The NPR folks also say that 220,000 Dems turned out, up from the former high of 124,000! Go Dems!
