So last fall I found a large soft spot just below my where my ribs meet. It seemed likely that a part of the area they had operated on before had herniated…
I asked my GP and she said: I’m not sure, but I think so.
No pain, so I ignored it for half a year. But the nagging feeling that the longer I ignored it, the worse it would get - and the harder it would be to fix - kept entering my brain.
So I finally went to see my surgeon. He said: No hernia, just that the mesh that was used is softer than regular tissue. It is unlikely (according to my surgeon) that anyone who hadn’t had experience with that type of surgery would know the difference, so he wasn’t surprised that the GP wasn’t sure.
Hooray! I was sure I was going back in.
If you have good news, feel free to share it too!
That’s fantastic news! (You’ve had quite a run with stomach surgery over the past several years, if I recall correctly? I’m so glad you’re getting a break from it.)
My good news: I’ve been chronically ill since I was 17 and unable to drive since then, until recently. My health has been dramatically better, and I got my learner’s permit a few weeks ago and am going for my license on Friday!! I can’t wait to be more of a proper adult. Next stop: college! and maybe even gainful employment!
Wow, that is huge news. Huger than mine, IMO. Hooray!
I’m hoping for good news tomorrow. I’m seeing a surgeon for a consult regarding a herniated disc! I’m not in a lot of pain and I’ve been very good about doing my physiotherapy, so I’m not inclined to want surgery, but the disc is pretty bad and it might not be able to heal enough without. I’m actually not sure if good news is “no surgery” or “surgery and you’re fine after it”, though! I do want this healed!
Congratulations, Khadaji! - I know that must be a huge relieve for you.

Great news Khadaji, and you too supergoose.
Fingers crossed for you mnemosyne.
Good thoughts for you **mnemosyne. **Let us know.
No surgery! I’m remarkably asymptomatic for someone with so much of a spinal disk sitting it her spinal canal, but as the doctor said “you must have a larger canal than average” (I chose to take that as a compliment) and unless I have more pain and/or numbness and/or muscle weakness etc then he’s not going to suggest surgery. The good news, though, is that I’m now officially a patient of his, so that if it comes to that, I can get treated sooner rather than later.
So for now, I keep on with the physiotherapy and just give it the time it needs to heal.
And I just realised that I haven’t congratulated anyone else in this thread and I feel bad for it, so congratulations to you, too!
Good news all around!! (And thank you for the congratulations!)
Hooray for no surgery! Here’s hoping your back improves on its own.
