Good place to sell a domain name?

Does anyone know of a good place to sell a domian name? I tried on ebay (twice) but didn’t get anywhere. I had one person email me about it, but that fell through. I’m sure there are plenty of online places that sell domain names, but I’m looking for somewhere reputable. Anyone have any expierence with this?

I would think the most obvious way is to put in big letters on the home page:

THIS SITE IS FOR SALE! PLEASE EMAIL ME@DOMAIN.COM.

whether or not the site was “active” or not. You could also try one of these places (google search).

Good luck!
What is it, by the way?

It does say that on the site, but since it’s not really indexed in any search engines (at least not purposely) not many people are going to come across it. As far as your google search, I know I can do that, but I’m really looking to see if anyone has expierence with any of these places, there’s so many that some, no doubt, are going to be rip offs. BTW it’s http://www.comedycentralhd.com. I picked it up assuming someday comedy central will be broadcast in HD, and would probably want it.

If they want it, they’ll get it. Legally, they don’t have to pay for it. Unless you’re running a business that relates to that name, Comedy Central will take it from you in a court battle.

I’m aware of that, but from what I’ve understood, sometimes the big companies would sooner just pay someone a couple hundred dollars rather then pay lawyers a couple thousand dollars and spend months working on it. That and I was planning on selling it to someone else before it comes to that.

I’ve sold nearly a $100k worth of my own domains, so I speak from experience. No reputable domain broker is gonna sell a trademarked name for you.

GreatDomains.com and Afternic.com are the premier domain brokers. From afternic’s user agreement:

So they wouldn’t take it even if it wasn’t too long anyway, not “generic”, and not even a very good name. I don’t think you’ll get anything for it.

A friend of mine once regged elmosworld.com, got a couple nasty letters, and caved, just signing it over to them. He showed me the letters, and they appeared to be very steadfast that in no way would they submit to extortion, and were perfectly willing to go to court to protect their trademark (which they must do, by law, if they want to keep it).

If you’re dead set on trying to sell it, follow Bruce Daddy’s advice, like I’m doing here. You could also spam some domain forums but you’ll probably get laughed at.

Good luck.

Wait, so you are knowingly breaking the the law (US AntiCybersquatting Act of 1999, which applies to you as you are in the US), risking a fine of $100,000 and hoping to squeeze some money out of a corporation for a trademarked domain name (that isn;t any good to begin with) because you think they’d rather just pay you off instead of paying lawyers?

You should rethink that plan.

And I think advocating breaking the law is against the rules here.
