Good Prog-Rock Songs w/ Female Vocals

I consider much of what Kate Bush does “prog rock.” Excellent prog rock, IMHO.

Surely Loreena McKennitt qualifies!

Hm, not really seeing much genuine prog here.

Thankfully at least no one’s mentioned Henry Cow yet - DOH!

Just missed edit:
Forgot Annette Peaccok’s fine vox on the first Bruford lp.
“Back to the Beginning”

Spirogyra The Duke of Beaufoot (from St. Radigunds , 1971)

(Hey, it’s over 8 minutes, it HAS to be prog

Brian Auger ?..

Steve Hackett

“Shadow of the Hierophant” from Voyage of the Acolyte with Sally Oldfield

Fantasy - Fantasy
(lead singer was only 16!)

It took me a while to find this on YouTube
Sandrose - Vision

Since Yes was mentioned, how about Empire?

Empire was the second band formed by original guitarist Peter Banks after he left Yes. Their singer Sydney Foxx has an incredibly powerful voice, real white soul.

Empire – Someone Who Cares

Comus - Get Yourself a Man

Curved Air

A selection.

I know it’s been a few days, but I LOVE this song… And when I first listened, after a few seconds, I didn’t think much, but I’m glad I listened to this all the way. There’s a dozen songs by Curved Air I am just discovering, thanks to this thread, so thanks, and check this out if you have 5 minutes. It’s a great song, and a great vocal.

Curved Air - Dance of Love

Mother Superior - Love the One you’re With

I’ve found a ton, but don’t want to bump this every week adding a single song, so I’ll put a list of every band I can think of that fits this.

-Illusion
-Curved Air/Sonja Kristina
-Mellow Candle
-Carol of Harvest
-Earth & Fire
-Savage Rose
-Fairport Convention
-Sandrose
-Stairway
-Renaissance
-Fantasy (US band from Florida)
-Spirogyra
-Mother Superior
-Lily & Maria
-Comus
-Fotheringay
-The Strawbs
-Trees
-Pentangle
-Steeleye Span

For a more recent prog one: Karnataka - Our Love

Hawkwind - album Space Bandits - track “Images”. Perfect.

Plenty of great Curved Air songs out there, or Sonya’s two Acid Folk albums were good, too.
And there’s Panic Room (youtube link), a current UK group. I was pretty impressed with the vocalist, especially, when we saw them a few years ago.

Brother Ah

I’ll always love the original, just for Jon Anderson’s voice (yes, high enough to qualify for this thread). And the fact that it’s from a great album: Jon + Vangelis: The Friends of Mr. Cairo (with its title track an homage to classic films).

Here’s Jon in Iceland with choir and orchestra.
