We’re doing a last minute trip to LA, arrive tomorrow, leave Wednesday. Staying at the La Brea Kimpton Hotel. Anything nearby? Nationality doesn’t matter. Thanks.
I didn’t know there was a Kimpton hotel in La Brea. Are you referring to the Palomar? If so, and you like Dungeness crab, I recommend Crustacean, a Vietnamese fusion restaurant about 10 minutes away by taxi. The garlic roasted crab is their signature dish and we always visit whenever in LA or SF. We have reservations for this Wednesday!
If you prefer something more continental, you can’t go wrong with Bouchon. Much easier to get into than the French Laundry at a quarter of the price. Their entrees are pretty standard, but they have great hors d’oeuvres that go very well with their nice wine list. Their grand seafood platter with Chablis, and the roasted bone marrow and charcuterie with a nice Bourgogne. Just thinking about makes me want to change our reservation!
You’re not in town for E3 by any chance, are you?
Are you staying at The Hotel Wilshire? If so, you’re really close to The Grove and Farmers Market. Tons of places to eat there. I love eating at the Farmers Market–lots of things to choose from and fantastic people watching. If you find yourself near the Tar Pits or LACMA, the Miracle Mile Food Trucks across the street have some pretty good food.
The Stinking Rose on La Cienega and Wilshire…a garlic inspired restaurant. The prime rib is very good.
Also in the neighborhood are a bunch of Korean BBQ places…most pretty good.
Olio Pizzeria & Cafe is very good.
Walking distance from the tar pits.
Thanks for the suggestions. Yes, it’s the Hotel Wilshire. We’re going down because my wife wants to see some exhibit at the LACMA, and visit the Page Museum.
If you havent been please dont miss the Getty Museum…the big one is an art museum and there is a smaller villa on PCH which holds a lot af antiquities. They are both free.
Views are great at the Getty. The collection … not so much.
Lots of good Ethiopian places near LACMA. Try Meals By Genet
