How high do you think she is?
Final celebrity death of 2017 was that performance.
How high are you?
:smack: My monitor was off.
What I don’t understand is why people aren’t upset not only with Carey, but with Dick Clark Productions as well. She was billed as performing, but nowhere did they disclose that her performance would be a lipsynch performance. They obviously had to know beforehand what she was doing, so why did they present her in a fraudulent manner?
Ok color me ignorant as I’ve never been to any type of concert, but I thought it was pretty much understood that there’s always lipsynching to a degree. Am I wrong? I was under the impression that people want to hear the songs as they know them (from the albums) and the only way to guarantee that is for the singer to lipsynch.
I wouldn’t say “at all concerts” but certainly at the big pop star warbler concerts I’d expect it and at big name televised events like this where you wouldn’t want to make a mistake.
I agree. They don’t really perform live for big televised events anymore - World Series and the Anthem, Super Bowl & the Half-Time show, etc. Maybe not ALL of the instruments, or ALL of the vocals, but at minimum, a big chunk of it. Too many variables, too much to go wrong. It’s a SHOW, not a concert. More’s the pity, but that’s how it is.
I can’t hate on her for this, as much as I LOVE live music. I doubt they’d let her perform 100% live on the New Year’s Eve show no matter how much she wanted - though I kind of doubt she’d be one of the bigger opponents of syncing.
It wasn’t the lip syncing that made this performance terrible. It was Mariah who just did not give a fuck at all about performing that made it terrible. I’m thinking that the bulk of this so-called performance wasn’t previously recorded and that’s why Mariah assed her way through it. Because she was too high or hoarse or unprepared to actually sing the song.
Besides if you’re a professional at this you will notice that your sound is off *before *you start and either demand it fixed or adjust. And yes, the production company and whoever was in charge of sound has a big piece of the blame since such mistakes just must not be allowed to happen for this sort of show and contingency measures should be at the ready.
I agree with** Biggirl**. Using tracks in order to ensure quality control on such a broadcast is fine, but that never excuses not being prepared to actually perform for your public, including having a Plan B and Plan C in case of tech failures, human screwups or unexpected weather.
Maybe after this we can let Clark’s ghost rest and take his name off the show?
Right. This is the root of the problem.
Mariah took out or lost her in-ear monitors at the beginning of the second number. Without those, she can’t hear anything. She has large speakers broadcasting out and crowd noise coming in. Even if you’re not a singer, you can imagine how hard it is to not be able to hear the backing track or your own vocals.
The question though is, how can they not have another in-ear on standby? A tech assistant comes on stage, the TV camera can cut to crowd shots if they insist, monitor is back in place and the show can go on. This is what baffles me.
