Good song intros, or This song is going to ROCK!

How 'bout that “I want my MTV” intro for that Dire Straits tune.

“Free Ride” by Edgar Winter
“I Know A Little” by Lynyrd Skynyrd

School’s Out ~ Alice Cooper
Suffragette City ~ David Bowie
Surrender ~ Cheap Trick
Dead Ringer for Love ~ Meatloaf w/ Cher

Yeah, there are quite a few songs that start out in high gear and just hang right there through the whole tune.

Edgar Winter’s Frankenstein starts with a very recogniazle riff.

London Calling by The Clash

how 'bout a song with a great intro… but the song sucks? Autograph’s “Turn Up The Radio” has a great intro… but that’s all there is…

Oh, and a good one… I love Iron Maiden’s “The Prisoner” intro… and “Phantome of the Opera”
and Rush “Spirit of Radio”

phantome!!! ummm… I know that’s not rite

verbenabeast, I’ve got one for you: John Cougar Mellencamp’s I Want a Lover Who Won’t Drive Me Crazy. The first half of the song is good, kick-ass instrumental, then the asinine and annoying lyrics cut in. Tell you what, Johnny boy, let’s just cut to the chase. Hit the highway. That song is about half the reason I can’t stand John Cougar Mellencamp – I do love the intro.

CJ

‘Since you’ve been gone’ Rainbow - The intro plays, then pauses for bit of vocal gymnastics, one of the greatest intros ever.

‘Love lies bleeding’ - Elton John, back in the days when he really was good, seems so long ago now.

‘Bend it’, -Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Titch, a very distinctive intro, even though the song is a bit iffy.

‘Area code 9’ - Stone Fox Chase, the blues harp intro is one of the most distinctive intros ever, some might remember it as the theme tune for ’ The Old Grey Whistle Test’ TV music show hosted by Bob Harris.

‘Heroes’ - Stranglers, that frenetic guitar thrash at the beginning, you always know whats going to follow.

‘I’m a man’ Chicago, as the instruments are introduced one by one, quite innovative on such a short song.

‘Oh Well!’ - Fleetwood Mac

Tanaqui,

Every time you post about music, I seem to feel that we are musical soulmates. Dope Sick Girl rocks. I can’t get close to playing it as fast as Matt Freeman does.

I’ll add:

Operation Ivy - Yellin’ in my Ear

Breeder’s “Cannonball”
Beatles’ “Rain”, “Strawberry Fields Forever”
Nine Inch Nails “Closer”
AC/DC “Dirty Deeds”
Chuck Berry “Johnny B. Goode” or “Roll Over Beethoven”

Waterfront - Simple Minds

“Loser” - Beck
“Ziggy Stardust” - David Bowie
“Beautiful People” - Marilyn Manson

AC/DC “Back in Black” and “Hells Bells”

I’d have to nominate Jamiroquai’sTravelling without moving” from the album of the same name.
The intro is simply the sound of one of his supercars starting up and belting off at full speed. The song is resonably funky and I guess the intro suits it (Course I love the osund of that engine anyway  )

My second nomination for this thread would be The Real Me by THE WHO. Outstanding rock song!

Hm.

I second “Angry Young Man” by Billy Joel. Also:

“Highway to Hell” ACDC
“Walk This Way” Aerosmith
“Superstition” Stevie Wonder
“Fun Fun Fun” Chuck Ber… I mean, the Beach Boys
“Pinball Wizard” The Who
“The Bitch is Back” Elton John
“Land of Confusion” Genesis

FISH

Age of Electric - Ugly

Doh! Hit sumbit too soon!

The Cult - Sanctuary
