Good Used Car Websites

I need a new (used) car. Problem is, I work during the day, and I’ve been busy at night due to my father being extremely ill. I don’t really feel comfortable going to the car lots in the dead of night–I always feel like I’m a car thief, even thouh I’m just looking at them, so I’ve turned to the Internet.

I’m looking for a used (1997-2000) Neon with not too many miles on it. I’m familiar with autotrader.com, cars.com, and eBay Motors. Are there any other sites out there that Dopers have found to be useful? I’ve found a few really crappy ones on my own using Google.

If it makes any difference, I’m in northern Illinois.

Craigslist.com

If you’re in the Greater Chicago Area, check out CarMax. Here’s a 2000 Neon Highline with 47K for 10 Grand.

Actually, CarMax is in 22 states. I came here to recommend them, because it’s where I got my '02 Nissan Sentra.

Yeah, but in limited locations in those states. Someone in northern Illinois would have to be in–or willing to drive to–the Greater Chicago Area to get to one.

And where we got our '00 Chevy Venture, which pretty much runs fine now. The good thing about CarMax is the extended warranty and anything they don’t fix right the first time is free on subsequent visits.

To check if the price is fair use try www.nadaguides.com or www.edmunds.com . Kelly’s Blue Book ( www.kbb.com ) tends to overstate the price. So as a general rule try to get a used car for Edmunds price or lessl, and never pay more than Kelly’s list price.

We sold our old Toyota using AutoLocal.com. I don’t know how things are from the standpoint of a buyer, but as sellers we were quite happy with the site.
