Good web site for quotes? People to quote?

Somehow I’ve gotten stuck with the duty of coming up with an inspirational or business-related quote every day. Preferably quoting people in Asia–Confucius, Sun Tzu, Lao Tzu are ones I’ve quoted so far, but I hope to broaden to the rest of the region.

Where can I find such quotes?

Do you have any favorite quotes?

“I hate quotations. Tell me what you know.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

Wikiquote is a good starting place.

I usually start with The Quote Garden.

The one I’ve always used has been The quotations Page. A quick search reveals plenty of quotes from Sun Tzu, Confucius, and Lao Tzu.

One of my favorite people to quote is Voltaire; he just has SO many good ones. I don’t think quoting him has become cliché yet… has it?

Be careful with quote sites. Many quotes are culled from other sites, and aren’t always correctly sourced.

A witty saying proves nothing.

Thos who can make quotes, do - those who can’t look for websites.

May I quote you on that?

I like Aphorisms Galore.

“There is no such thing as a stupid question, only stupid people asking them.”

Good defeats evil as water extinguishes fire; if a cup of water does not put out a blaze, do not conclude that water is useless against fire.

One of the characters in my Nano quotes Voltaire extensively, thanks for making that real!

And one of the other characters uses that line to shut him up!

These look great, thank you!

A favorite saying of mine, attributed to Voltaire: “I disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”

I’ve been collecting quotations since high school, and now have a thick file of them. I also have the 1980 edition of Bartlett’s Familiar Quotations, which in any edition is well worth having on your shelf. Online, I use Wikiquote occasionally. If you’d like Biblical quotations, Biblegateway.com has a good search engine and can find anything you want in different translations, incl. the King James, New Revised Standard, etc.
