You mean like the right claimed Clinton’s economic success was Reagan’s doing, and then blamed 9/11 on Clinton? That sort of thing? Works for me.
Re: blaming and crediting those not in office when a change occurs:
The future is assured; it’s the past that keeps changing. ~Russian proverb I read somewhere.
Considering the amount by which the deficit has increased since Democrats took control of Congress, and the fact that the budget wasn’t balanced under Clinton until Republicans took control of Congress, then it probably won’t work nearly so well to blame everything on Bush. Not that they won’t try.
But if there is a terrorist attack on American soil seven month after Obama is elected (assuming he makes it into office) that has been in planning for years, while Bush was in office, from the same folks who staged a previous attack on the same target, and it is shown that Bush had a chance to take out those who planned it but failed to take action, then it will be legitimate to blame it on Bush.
Of course, all he needs to do is tell the Obama administration that terrorism should be his top priority and then it will be all Obama’s fault.

I don’t think that it’s that the politics have shifted, I think it’s that everybody in the political threads are such fucking assholes these days. It’s all insinuations and insults, whether justified or not. Everyone’s shit-throwing mode has a hair-trigger, if it’s not constantly on.
I’m getting ready to shoot myself the next time I read a political thread out of great debates. I’m guessing that means I have less than a minute before I have to do that. Bye. Bang! Bang!
But it’s not just in political threads it’s in any thread a dopehead thinks it would be amusing to put his/her McCain/Palin zinger. I would say it works both ways but it doesn’t for the most part. I am an equal opportunity hater myself, I don’t think any political party or person has it right. But when I go to GQ/MPSIMS/CS/ even IMHO I hate seeing the political barbs. I like discussing my insane ideas politically, but I try to keep them in GD.
That’s why I am for a politics forum, and if the name of a politician or a political party is used or hinted at, in any other forum, instaban.
…double post - see below, I forgot my special sig
I’ve visited the Straight Dope Message Board at least weekly for, what, six years now and no matter how many forums I check out, nothing else comes close to the level of SDMB, all things considered. Here it’s easy to forget what kind of misspelled tunnel-vision hatred, misinformation and hearsay is on offer most everywhere else where the participation is as active and varied as in here.
I think this is what some are speaking of - it’s a “goodbye thread” - why another hyjack?
(um…regards,

I can’t stand politics, period. American politics, even more so and recent American politics the most-est.
But I’ve genuinely not noticed any conservatives being treated like shit. I’ve noticed a number of complaints about liberals, leftists, leaning to the left and liberal bias though.
I don’t spend a lot of time in the political threads though, so maybe I’m just missing the action - outside of the overtly political topics, however, I am aware of what I would describe as an above-background level of conservative whining and complaint, about liberals, leftists etc. Maybe this is just a facet of my own liberal bias though, I dunno.
Where exactly are the liberals being so mean to the conservatives?
Where, if anywhere, are the whiny liberal threads about mean old conservatives?
Take care, Diceman. I would say the thought process leading to your departure has been more than validated by the way this thread has gone.
I was responding to Chefguy and pseudotriton ruber ruber.
Did you happen to read my first post to the thread?
