Goodbye, Spot (sad)

We had a stray cat adopt us. Nice friendly cat, seems fairly young, purrs a lot, a tom. He just strolled in the door one day when we were bringing in groceries. We put a collar on him, saying that we were adopting him if no one claimed him. The other two cats got along with him all right. My husband named him Spot, as he’d always thought that it was a funny name for a cat.

Today my husband took him to the vet, to get his shots, in preparation for neutering.

He has feline immunodeficiency (sp?) disease…feline AIDS.

Our other two cats are very healthy, and completely indoor cats. So we can’t keep Spot indoors, nor can we let him run around outdoors to infect other cats. And NOBODY will adopt him. Nor will any humane society or other animal welfare agency take him, except to put him down quickly and painlessly.

My husband has taken Spot down to the Humane Society to have him put down. My husband refused to allow me to accompany him.

I think I’m done crying for a while, so I’m going to take a couple of Benadryl and try to get some sleep. What a hell of a way to spend Thanksgiving Eve. I had really planned on doing some other things.

Oh, Lynn I’m sorry. Look at it this way…he died with his last days in the arms and company of a loving and caring family. Sometimes the best thing we can do for our pet is put them out of their misery.

I’d post a link to Rainbow Bridge, but I’m sure you’ve seen it already. Have a good cry, play with the other kitties, and pig out on turkey.

That’s so sad. (((((Lynn)))))

That’s very sad, Lynn. My thoughts are with you.

Daniel

Sorry about Spot. Sadly, his disease is probably why he found you. His parents probably kicked him out! Try to think good thoughts over the holiday.

:frowning:
That’s awful. I’m truly, truly sorry.

That’s awful. I had to put down my Leo when he had advanced Leukemia – but he was quite sick, unlike your visually healthy Spot.

Awwwwwwwwww, gosh that’s sad. We had to put the Amazing Copper Dog down a year and a half ago. I still miss the little fellow.

So glad you found out now, though, so you don’t have to worry about your other kitties.

You and your husband are good folks, Lyn, you’re good folks. As has been said, at least Spot left this world after knowing people who cared.

Argh. This keyboard I’m usin’ has problems with the letter “n”, and I didn’t pick it up. My apologies, Lynn.

I’m sorry, Lynn. He was lucky to find you and get some good lovin’, and to have someone see that he didn’t die a long, painful death. You did the right thing. I hope you feel better soon.

::Sniff::

You must be great people to open your home to a stray. You are doing the right thing. Spot was very lucky to have strolled in your door.
:frowning:

:frowning: My pup is named Spot. Our thoughts are with you and your Spot.

Oh Lynn, I feel so bad for you. One of the most stress filled days for me was the day I waited for Hanna’s test results to come in.
Spot is in a good place now, and will suffer no longer. There was a reason he came to you, so his last days would be peaceful, and not pain filled.

i’m sorry.

i know this decision was very difficult.

Goodbye Spot. :frowning:

Best wishes for you and yours, Lynn. He found love with your family… the duration is unimportant to him.

Sweetie, I am so sorry. I’d say more, but I am still crying over another thread and I am snuffling too much internally to articulate anymore.

I am pretty much destroyed tonight.

I love you, though.

{{{{Lynn}}}}. I’m so sorry. Others have said what I am thinking better than I can.

Try to have a good holiday, little Spot wouldn’t want y’all to be sad.

Spot adopted you because he needed your help, and you gave it. It may seem harsh, but you’ve helped him.

And if there’s a place where cats go after they die, I’m sure Spot is wishing you all of his best this holiday.

((((Lynn ))))

Boscibo is right, Lynn, he came to you for help and you gave it though it hurt. Spot is comfy and happy now, and will be forever because of you. I’m sorry for your loss.
