Google homepage

Google has something on it’s page almost every day of the year. Today (12/07/2016) was the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor and there was nothing on the page.
I wonder if they will have something on the anniversary of the A-bombs on Japan.

Yes, there was a small American flag on the bottom.

And the possessive is “its”.

I think they lean more toward the lighter side of anniversaries.

On August 13th, they honored my birthday. Did y’all see that too?

There are only 365 days in a year. Does Google have to do the same tributes on the same days every year?

This comes up multiple times a year for various things, look, here’s an article from 4 years ago about Easter.

There was plenty of coverage of the Pearl Harbor anniversary yesterday for those who wanted it, and Google has made it clear that honoring major events with something that they literally call the “Google Doodle” is not appropriate given the weight of the subjects.

eta: I want to get 2 more cents in – it’s goofy cartoons, right? Like how do you make a goofy cartoon honoring men who slowly suffocated in sunken battleships. Why do people want to see that?

And the mouseover text read, “Remembering Pearl Harbor, 75 years later”. It was subtle, but they didn’t ignore it.

As suggested above, the doodles that mess with the logo are usually for less somber events. I think for the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, there’s just a black ribbon on the same spot as this flag.
