Google Now? More like Google 40 Minutes Ago

So my Droid phone updated itself (and Fruit Ninja is now like claymation) and I got something called Google Now. It keeps wanting to tell me the weather and how long it will take me to drive to work from wherever I am at.

[li]On Friday, I asked “What time is the Cal game tomorrow?” and it told me the time of the Cal Football Spring Scrimage game, not the NCAA tournament basketball game. [/li][li]On Saturday, I went to lunch about 2 miles from my house. Google Now tells me it will take 19 minutes to get home. Wha?!? Then I look at the little map, and see that Google thinks I am in the middle of the Dumbarton Bridge. I was there about an hour and a half earlier, but I was just passing through.[/li][li]Saturday evening, at 7pm on the dot, Google Now dings and tells me that if I want to make it to the concert on time, I have to leave at 6:45 pm.[/li][li]On Monday, as I am walking through the parking lot up to the parking garage, I am desperately trying to get Google Now to tell me how long it will take to drive home. I cannot get Google Now to tell me. Once I get home, it tells me it will take 17 minutes to get home, but of course, Google Now thinks I am in Milpitas, which I was just passing through about a half hour ago![/li][li]Google Now doesn’t think women play basketball. That really frosts my socks.[/li][/ol]

I am on the Sprint Galaxy Nexus. It works fine for me, although I think i t could be a little better at updating my weather more frequently. Google Now, I think is actually a great feature, but it needs a little refinement, in my opinion.

I hope it works better for you after the next update though.

Siri.

I tried setting up Google Now on my Nexus 4 last week and it said I needed to get Google Now. Apparently I “got” it when you did (it wasn’t in the Play Store at the time) because it keeps asking me to set it up now (as it were).

You have to train it and it can take a couple weeks. I installed it a couple of weeks ago on my razor and it is just now starting to make me happy and impressed. At first I, too, thought it was garbage and wanted to get rid of it but a friend of mine who is up on all things android convinced me to give it a chance and it keeps getting better and better… the only thing it is not doing for me correctly is the news.
I still dislike using my phone to post, even with tapatalk…

I have Google Now on my Nexus 7 and it works wonderfully. Every time I ask directions is correctly displays my location and gives the correct information. Is it possible you have your phone set to use the GPS only at certain intervals so Google Now is giving information based on the last known location instead of updating the location when you ask the question?

I quite like Google Now, I just wish it was easier to control exactly what it shows you. I would really like to *always *have the weather be visible, for example. Maybe the ability to make custom cards- ask Google Now a question, and then you can save the resulting card and always have it be a card when you open the app.

I’d also like to be able to “tear off” cards into individual widgets… preferably widgets I could make look like the rest of my phone’s UI.

Oh, and I’d really like to be able to use Google Now over my bluetooth car stereo. Siri worked just fine when I had an iPhone, but my Galaxy S3 defaults to either Voice Dialer (which never seems to work) or S-Voice (which works, but is pretty crappy).

Even with all that, I really like it. It’s got better and more accurate voice recognition than Siri does, and can access anything on my phone. I appreciate the way Google Now anticipates what info I’ll need, but I just want more control over it for when it doesn’t.

I find that ironic, I’m tired of Google Now constantly telling how long it will take for me to go home. It’s like the fucking rain man telling how many minutes to Wopner.

I suppose I can probably swipe it away and after a while it will stop coming up (I hope).

Google stuff is such crap, and the portions are *so *small. I demand a refund!

So you are mad that you asked a vague question of a computer and got the answer you were not looking for?

I don’t have google now, but it sounds as if I should be glad. I do have a new clock, that has replaced my alarm/timer. Gee that’s great. Now I have a clock, that is a duplicate of the one always in my upper right coner, or on my lock screen, and an extra button press to get to my alarm, which I use all the time, and no more timer, which I also use, sorry used(RIP), frequently. So I have to use my timmer app, which I haven’t used in months, because the alarm timer was so much better, when it existed. Yay updates! I don’t even know how to complain to the right people. This is almost as annoying as having to try and disable all the junk verizon leaves on my phone. Screw it, I am off to mini rants.

unfortunately requires one to use an iOS device.
