Well, there is the teeming millions homepage, which has been around since 1997 and has pics of dopers (along with profiles that they can edit themselves) and the TM Photo-Rama.
Everyone on the board is a real person, living on planet Earth (or so can usually be assumed). We are all communicating with each other. How is this not the real world? It isn’t the whole real world, but it is a part of it. It isn’t some fake alternate universe where nothing matters and nothing is real. Ask the various married couples who met on the board if they think it was real.

Applying discretion and balance is the key. Posters helping out is appreciated, and has been stated so. Helping isn’t an all-or-nothing proposition–or shouldn’t be. There’s absolutely no reason for that, and it’s important that this trainwreck not spook people away from helping. If the assistance goes too far, the poster is told–gently. It says something that such advice is very rarely needed.
But it’s also important to note that this issue is not unprecedented or a matter of personality conflicts.

My apologies OpalCat, I was, of course, referring to those people who have no life except this board and/or other boards. My point is that if you live your life at one remove from reality, as in something not board related, then you need help.
It seems to me that DDG tries to be helpful in promoting discussion, in exactly the same way that moderators often do.
In my own personal experience, DDG’s input is always helpful. It isn’t always right, but it’s always helpful.
DDG is getting ragged on for for it, in exactly the same way that moderators often do.
But DDG is being put in an unfair situation. Don’t rag on DDG’s ass as a proxy for ragging on a mod’s ass.
Rag on a mod and get banned by all means. Don’t rag on someone else who’s just trying to be helpful.

Sorry, Desmostylus, I’m insommniac and totally screwed the pooch on coding the first time I posted it. Hit “submit” instead of “preview”. It was partially written, but the only things changed were 1. some bolding tags cleaned up and 2. the final paragraph added. Since it’s a long post in a long thread, it seemed more sensible to just clean it up than re-post the finished version.
I’m sorry that it caused confusion. (And here I was trying to build a coherent point!) That’s what happens when I post on no sleep at all.

Hey Desmostylus I believe that Hamadryad may have been referring to where the mods DID say that Duck Duck Goose was acting like a so-called “junior mod”. Whether or not she can ban doesn’t come into it.

Don’t see much “arguing” as much thinly veiled personal attacks and eye rolling assaults on logic. It is clear that the Unban Satan thread still has fallout, as will this thread. The nice thing (if any) about this thread is it helps with my personal determination of who is an ass or not. Conversely, my estimation of a few people has grown greatly by their well thought out posts. Notice I am not naming either as their has been quite enough rocks thrown here already.
