My old Google toolbar had an icon that moved the URL up one level.
For example boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=3 -> Straight Dope Message Board - Your direct line to thousands of the smartest, hippest people on the planet, plus a few total dipsticks. -> boards.straightdope.com/
This was extremely useful when trying to find parent location from a link without trying to locate it from a confusing home page.
A stay in the shop disappeared the old Google toolbar. I can’t find anyplace to restore that setting in the current toolbar. Has it been removed or am I just not looking in the right place?
When I got a new version of the Google Toolbar, I had a hard time finding the “Up” button. Here’s what worked for me:
Click “Settings” (a large green button on the far right of the toolbar). Choose “Options.” Choose the tab labeled “More.” This takes you to a menu where you can select, under “Even more buttons,” the “Up” button.
Whew. They must think nobody likes this option very much. This is the redheaded stepchild button, for sure.
Huh. I use that button all the time. It’s one I miss right away when I’m at another computer. Even though I can do the same thing manually without much trouble, it’s still one of the handiest buttons to have.
More was exactly what I was looking for, and I made more changes than just adding that button. Not sure exactly why I didn’t think to look there, but thanks for cluing me in.
