GOP convention in Minneapolis

The Republicans have picked Minneapolis as their location for the 2008 convention. Interestingly, Minneapolis is also a possible location for the Democratic convention. Why not have both conventions in the same city? I’m sure the media would prefer it to reduce their costs.

However, I’m sure the residents of Minneapolis/St. Paul wouldn’t be thrilled.

The other possible Democratic cities are Denver and New York City.

I’m not think New York will be picked. It hosted the Dems in 1992 and the Republicans in 2004.

I heard earlier on the radio about my fair city being chosen by the GOP for their convention, and I thought, Hmmm…that makes sense, seeing what a hotbed of conservatism this area is.

Minnesota hasn’t voted Republican since Nixon in 1972. The mayors of both Minneapolis and St. Paul are Democrats. Paul Wellstone is still idolized in many parts.

Outta be interesting. At least the convention coincide with the State Fair.

It’s St. Paul, not Minny.

This still sucks, though. We’re going to be overrun by flag waving, true believing fundies…clogging up traffic, harranguing the gays, shooting their guns, sieg heiling all over the place and God knows what else. I might have to leave town for the week. I hope I don’t have to go to downtown St. Paul.

The convention stuff will be at the Excel. The Minneapolis Hilton will be the “headquarters.”

That outta liven up the daily morning snarl on I-94.

Oh God, 94 is a nightmare in the mornings as it is. Can’t we put them in the Metrodome or something? Do they really need to take up both cities?

Jeeeeeeez… any more stereotypes you wanna throw around while you’re at it?

My protesting plans were significantly disrupted by the GOP not picking Tampa/St. Pete. (Does anyone need a pole-mounted, vivisected “Bill the Cat” stuffed animal with “Frist - ACK!” written on it?)

Their “fundraising barn dance on Paul Wellstone’s grave” could be good for a few laughs.

Oh my God. That’s just wonderful. Can’t wait to see what a complete and utter nightmare traffic will be. There are plenty of hotels in St. Paul! AARRRRGH!!

I think it’s hilarious that they chose the Twin Cities, of all places, where it’s All Democratic, All The Time. (Plenty of GOP support outside of the cities, but still…).

Exactly. That means that anything that goes wrong in any way will be the fault of the Democrats. Rather sneaky, actually. Get all that free airtime to not only pump your candidate, but have commentators bad-mouthing the opposition without you having to say a thing.

My target date for finishing grad school and moving away is May 2008. It just got an underscore.

I don’t know. This could be fun!! Think we can get lutefisk on the menu as some point?

I thought he was just referring to the George Allen campaign.

Hey, we’re a purple state, remember?

“Xcel”

My bad.

Side note: “Tastes of Chocolate” and “lutefisk” should never exist in the same post.

Second side note: How long before the Wellstone-age democrats start referring to the Mpls Hilton as the “Hindquarters”?
