Do you have any examples of this happening?

The mere fact that Bachmann lasted as long in the race as she did speaks volumes. The fact Santorum is still in it speaks more.
Bachmann hung around long after a real candidate would have packed it in because she was in it for the publicity. Someone really trying to be president would have long since concluded it was a waste of money but for her staying in the limelight for as long as possible is good for her career. She makes money off it. Santorum hasn’t moved to the right. He’s always been this way and managed to get elected in purple Pennsylvania long before the Tea Party.
I wouldn’t argue that the Tea Party has no effect but the GOP is already so far over on the right. The things the Tea Partiers are asking for are just the things they have been promised. I see them preventing Republicans from backsliding and compromising but (other than on immigration and then only in a negative way) so far as I can see they don’t influence policy. For instance, I’ve never heard of them getting their way at the expense of the core Republican constituency: the superwealthy.
It annoys me immensely that such moneygrubbing is not only acceptable, but profitable.
It is one thing when Gingrich runs for POTUS and we all know he may fail but he could actually make it, and oh by the way he is an author and public speaker who makes his money that way.
And then, it is very possible for someone else to be even more venal.
Oh… and did I mention insane?
If they ever do, we shall be living in interesting times indeed.
If Romney wins and he has a Republican congress and senate, he will be steamrolled by them. He will not be the one to draw the line in the sand and tell the tea party “no further”
You are part of a crowd who hates minorities? (That is what a self-referential citation to a claim that you have acccurately described the Tea Partyy would indicate.)
