HUSBAND: Gordon Bennet! I only washed it this morning!

In the context in which you present the question, I’m guessing the second link has it right in saying that “Gordon Bennet” is a bastardization of the cockney saying “gor blimey”…
Maybe someone will be along shortly with more information…

This is the only Gordon Bennett I know, but I don’t have any idea why people would want to take his name in vain.
