I was listening to NPR last night, and according to the news report, Gore said that he did not want to suggest that voting for Nader would be helping Bush but that might be the case. (This was during his visit to Oregon; I don’t have an exact quote.)
Huh? Well, you just did suggest that voting for Nader helps Bush. Isn’t that like saying “I’m not even going to mention that Buddhist temple thing.”?
I’m not trying to get into the substance of what Gore said since that is being handled in other threads, but this kind of rhetoric just bugs me.
Yeah, I saw that in the paper today. Typical half-assed Gore response. I was interested, though, because it’s the first time I’ve heard of Gore even mentioning Nader. Previously it seemed he was trying to ignore him, but I guess he’s realized he can’t really do that anymore.
Did anybody ever, in any election anywhere in the world, from the beginning of voting (Roman Senate?) doubt that a third party vote would hurt the somebody? No.
What irks me even more is how the press just merrily passes the sound bite along without even analysing it a little bit. I mean, come on, this one’s not that hard to see through, are all these journalists really that brain dead?
