Of course, she’s just a cartoon character who could be killed off at any time… but what happened here? Did the voice actor for Noodle leave?
Summary:
Noodle is sitting happily on her sunny hill in front of the windmill, then some big black helicopters come by and shoot at her. She hides behind the windmill, and it is shot up. She tentatively walks back out, and the helicopters come back, shooting some more. The windmill catches fire and goes p in flames. Noodle hides inside. They keep coming back, preventing her from leaving the burning windmill. She peers out at them from a window. Some kind of anchore-dealie breaks, and the whole floating island comes crashing down to the ground, between some craggy peaks, with Noodle screaming in fear in the burning doorway. There’s a gigantic crash, which makes it seem quite obvious that she didn’t survive (if she was still in the windmill, and there was nothing to indicate she had any way of getting out. Then to top it off, the black helicopters fly over the mess and drop bombs! Talk about overkill.
sniff Poor Noodle. She was my favourite. I haven’t felt this bad for a cartoon since… since… since g’nap smurfs!
Voice actor for Noodle? It’s certainly possible I missed it; but has she ever spoken? It being a cartoon, Noodle survived. The video only showed her floating windmill and surrounding land crashing into a valley. The final impact wasn’t shown so we don’t know what happened in the end. Heck the spirit of rhythm from Clint Eastwood could have saved her.
Interesting. Thanks for the link, Reveant Threshold.
To answer Homebrew, yes, Noodle has a voice actor who plays her in “interviews”, as well as guest vocalists who play her voice in various tracks (for example: *19/2000 * and *Re-hash * were done by Miho Hatori of Cibo Matto, Dare was done by Rosie Wilson). The woman who does her speaking voice is named Haruka Kuroda.
I know they’ve survived missiles before… it just seemed like a big buildup in this particular video, watching Noodle go down in the flaming windmill, focusing on her fright and hurt. Even though they got blown up in 19/2000, hell, that video was fun. This one didn’t feel quite as fun.
I wonder what they’re up to with this storyline? They’ve got me hooked, and I’d be theirs with the music alone.
Look at the Gorrilaz video page on Launch, Noodle recently did a segment showing off the dance moves she did in Dare. I don’t think Noodle is really dead, I think it is just a cliff hanger, and later we will see how she survived.
I really hope so. I don’t mind them giving me a little scare if it’s building up to something. I like the idea about the metaphors of childhood/adulthood, hanging on to those childhood ideals even while they’re going up in flames, and all that. I hope we see Noodle come out of this a little older, a little wiser, and sadly but inevitably, a little more cynical.
