Yesterday. Only problem is it’s a US computer, but I am in Europe (Ireland) I can’t charge it. Can anyone here tell me what sort of adapter I would need? I have the US charger, but the voltage here is different.
It’s a second hand computer by the way.
Look on the charger.
I’m pretty sure they are Universal - they will accept 220v / 50Hz. If so, all you need is a plug adapter.
ETA - i just checked mine, and it’s Universal.
Are you sure the power adapter (charger) isn’t multivoltage? My wife has a US laptop that works fine in the UK. All she needed was a simple converter to change the plug type from American to British.
NB: Verify this carefully: no good can come of plugging a 110 volt charger into a 220 volt supply. It’s just that most laptops I’ve seen in the last 10 years or so can handle anything from 110-240 volts.
Plug it into the mains, plug the U.S. charger into it.
No, that’s completely unnecessary. Apple chargers (and practically all other chargers for electronic devices, BTW) are multivoltage. You just need something like this 2 Round Pin Europe/Asia Plug Adapter - WMU5 - World Import to convert the plug.
Well, what do you know? I didn’t see any sort of selector switch on my Apple power supply/charger, but when I checked the label it does indeed say ‘110-240v 50/60Hz’. I had no idea. Hey, wouldn’t it be great if there was a website dedicated to fighting such ignorance?
Thanks, and I agree that an 89¢ adaptor is better than £14.
Hi, thanks to all of you for replying so fast. I took your advice and got a plug adapter and plugged it into the mains. It charged up just fine. Great! I always wanted an Apple ibook.
